January, 2010 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team was presented with individual and team awards during the month of January in an
awards ceremony held in the Fitchburg High School Cafe.
Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were junior Brandon Davis,
who received the Most Valuable Runner; and the annual Mark
Gionet Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the
Most Improved Runner, went once again to sophomore Adam Whitcomb, who improved his
personal record on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 26:43 to 23:18, a cumulative improvement of 3:25 in his second season; the Coach's Award went
to senior Tyler Boudreau for his dedication and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award, which went to Christian Capoccia.
These athletes, along with juniors Dan Finn, Mike Gross, Ross McNamara, and Jon Vander Hamm; and sophomores Chris Howe and Chris MacLean, all received certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School cross country.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team, and everyone else who contributed to the team's success throughout the 2009 season.
November 16, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a seventeenth place finish at the District E, Division I Cross Country Championship held Saturday morning at the Gardner Golf Course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course was sophomore Brandon Davis, who finished thirty-ninth in
16:07.0. Freshman Christian Capoccia, one-hundred and thirteenth, 17:53.0; Dan Finn, one-hundred and fifteenth, 18:03.8;
Tyler Boudreau, one-hundred and twenty-fourth, 18:24.5; Chris Howe, one-hundred and thirty-seventh, 19:44.0;
Mike Gross, one-hundred and forty-first, 20:28.4, and and Jon Vander Hamm, one-hundred and forty-third, 20:53.6,
combined for the team score in the meet.
October 27, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a fifth place finish Tuesday afternoon at the Mid-Wach A
Championship Meet held at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough. The Red Raiders place in the
meet earned them a tie with Milford for fifth place overall in the league standings.
Leading the way for Fitchburg in the Varsity A Race over the 5k course was Brandon Davis,
who finished fourteenth in 18:06.8, while Christian Capoccia, thirtieth, 20:16.3; Tyler Boudreau,
thirty-second, 20:40.0; Chris Howe, thirty-fourth, 20:50.2; Dan Finn, thirty-sixth, 21:07.7,
and Mike Gross, forty-fifth, 22:46.4, comprised the rest of the varsity team.
The Red Raiders travel to the Gardner Golf Course to compete in the District
Championship on Saturday, November 16th, with the Division I race scheduled to get
underway at 11:00 a.m.
October 24, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team turned in sveral fine performances at the 52nd Annual Wachusett
Invitational Cross Country Meet held Saturday afternoon on the Mountaineer's home course.
In the 5k Varsity A Race Brandon Davis finished twenty-fifth in 18:52.8, while also running well
were Chris Howe, fifty-second, 22:09.6, and Jon Vander Hamm, fifty-fifth, 22:50.0. In the 5k All Freshmen Race
Christian Capoccia shined for the Red Raiders finishing ninth overall in 20:14.2.
Fitchburg travels to Ghiloni Park in Marlborough next Tuesday afternoon to compete in the Mid-Wach A Championships
with the varsity race scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
October 19, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team earned their first win of the season,
defeating arch-rival Leominster, 26-29, Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park's 2.9 mile course.
Brandon Davis led the Red Raiders finishing first in 17:06, while teammates Christain Capoccia,
third, 18:06; Tyler Boudreau, sixth, 18:46, Dan Finn, seventh, 19:07, and Chris Howe, ninth, 20:57.8, completed
the scoring for Fitchburg. Also running well wereMike Gross, fifteenth, 21:34; Jon Vander Hamm, sixteenth, 21:39;
Chris MacLean, twenty-fifth, 24:07, and Ross McNamara, twenty-ninth, 24:36.
Fitchburg travels to Wachusett Regional Saturday afternoon to compete in the 52nd Annual Wachusett
Invitational Cross Country Meet with the first race scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
October 17, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team turned in a number of fine performances at the 18th Annual Bob McIntyre
Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday morning at Northfield Mountain.
In the 5k Varsity Division I race the Red Raiders were represented by Brandon Davis, eighty-third, 18:30.9.
In the 5k Junior Varsity Division I race Dan Finn, one-hundreth, 20:52.8; Tyler Boudreau, one-hundred and ninth, 21:09.3,
and Jon Vander Hamm, one-hundred and forty-seventh, 23:50.5. In the 3k Freshmen race Christian Capoccia
finished thirty-sixth in 12:58.3.
Fitchburg hosts arch-rival Leominster next Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park with that race
scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 5, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team was
defeated by the Shrewsbury, 19 to 44, Monday afternoon on the Colonial's 3.1 mile home course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg was Brandon Davis, second, 18:46, while
Dan Finn, twenty-third, 22:12; Tyler Boudreau, twenty-eighth, 23:57; Christian Capoccia, twnety-ninth,
24:01, and Jon Vander Hamm, thirty-third, 25:10, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well
was Adam Whitcomb, thirty-sixth, 27:59, and Ross McNamara, thirty-seventh, 30:25.
The Red Raiders travel to Northfield Mountain on Saturday morning, October 17th, to compete in the 18th
Annual Bob McIntyre Baystate Cross Country Invitational Meet with the first race scheduled to get
underway at 10:30 a.m.
September 29, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost
their fourth meet of the season, falling to the Milford Scarlet Hawks, 23-32, in a closely contested dual meet run on the Coggshall
Park 2.9 mile course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg was Brandon Davis, who finished first in 16:41, while Dan Finn,
sixth, 18:54; Chris Howe, 18:55, seventh; Tyler Boudreau, eighth, 19:07, and Mike Gross, twelfth, 20:55, completed the
scoring for the Red Raiders. Also running well for Fitchburg were Jon Vander Hamm, fifteenth, 22:31;
Adam Whitcomb, seventeenth, 23:18; Chris MacLean, nineteenth, 23:37, and Ross McNamara, twenty-sixth, 26:01.
The Red Raiders travel to Shrewsbury next Monday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway
at 3:30 p.m.
September 21, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team saw
their record fall to 0-3, losing to Algonquin Regional, 18-45, at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders over the 2.9 mile course was Brandon Davis, third, 16:40,
while Chris Howe, fifteenth, 19:22; Dan Finn, seventeenth, 19:38; Christian Capoccia, nineteenth, 19:49; and
Tyler Boudreau, twenty-fourth, 20:26, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well were Adam Whitcomb,
thirty-ninth, 23:47; Chris MacLean, fortieth, 24:27; Ross McNamara, forty-second, 26:41, and Nick Ernst,
forty-third, 31:27.
The Red Raiders host Milford next Monday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30
p.m.
September 14, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost
their second meet of the season Monday afternoon, losing to Wachusett Regional, 17-46, on the Mountaineers 3.1 mile home course.
Fitchburg was led by Brandon Davis, fourth, 18:37, while Dan Finn, eighteenth, 21:30;
Chris Howe, twenty-fourth, 22:24; Tyler Boudreau, twenty-fifth, 22:58; and Christian Capoccia, twenty-sixth,
22:59, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well for Adam Whitcomb, twenty-ninth, 28:46, and Chris MacLean, thirtieth, 28:47.
The Red Raiders host Algonquin Regional next Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park with that race scheduled to get
underway at 3:30 p.m.
September 8, 2009 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team opened their season on the road, losing to North Middlesex Regional, 19-51, Tuesday afternoon on
the Patriots 3.0 mile home course.
Fitchburg was led by Brandon Davis, 18:31, second, while teamates Dan Finn, tenth, 22:20; Christian Capoccia, eleventh,
22:38; Tyler Boudreau, thirteenth, 25:23; and Chris MacLean, eighteenth, 28:20, rounded out the top
five.
The Red Raiders travel to Wachusett Regional next Monday afternoon at with that race
scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
