November 18, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team celebrated the conclusion of the 2008 cross country
season Tuesday afternoon with a pizza party and awards ceremony in the Fitchburg High School Cafe.
Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were sophomore Brandon Davis,
who received the Most Valuable Runner; and the annual Mark
Gionet Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the
Most Improved Runner, went to freshman Adam Whitcomb, who improved his
personal record on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 34:26 to 26:43, a cumulative improvement of 7:43 in only one season; the Coach's Award went
to senior Christian Santiago for his dedication and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award, which went to Chris Howe.
These athletes, along with seniors Brian Fitzgibbons, Lee McFadden, Manny Torres, and Cameron Trodello; juniors Nick Balaguer, Tyler Boudreau, and Chris Carbone; sophomores Dan Finn,
Mike Gross, and Jon Vander Hamm; and freshman Chris MacLean, all received certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School cross country.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team, and everyone else who contributed to the team's success throughout the 2008 season.
November 8, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a nineteenth place finish at the District E, Division I Cross Country Championship held Saturday morning at the Gardner Golf Course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course was sophomore Brandon Davis, who finished 55th in 16:42.8. Freshman Chris Howe, 102nd, 17:30.0; juniors Chris Carbone, 105th, 17:36.0;
and Nick Balaguer, 134th, 18:32.3; sophomore Dan Finn, 143rd, 18:52.3; junior Tyler Boudreau, 145th, 18:59.2; and sophomore Mike Gross, 152nd, 19:46.7, combined for the team score in the meet.
October 29, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a sixth place finish Wednesday afternoon at the Mid-Wach A
Championship Meet held at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough. The Red Raiders place in the
meet earned them a tie with Milford for sixth place overall in the league standings.
Leading the way for Fitchburg in the Varsity A Race over the 5k course was sophomore
Brandon Davis, who finished twenty-first in 19:08.6. Junior Chris Carbone, thirty-fourth,
20:02.7; freshman Chris Howe, thirty-fifth, 20:03.9; sophomore Dan Finn, thirty-eighth,
20:20.0; junior Tyler Boudreau, forty-fourth, 21:33.6; sophomores Mike Gross,
forty-eighth, 22:29.7; and Jon Vander Hamm, forty-ninth, 24:00.3, comprised the rest of
the varsity team.
Representing Fitchburg in the All-Class Junior Varsity Race were senior Christian
Santiago, seventy-seven, 24:37.7; freshman Chris MacLean, ninety-five, 28:08.6; senior
Manny Torres, ninety-six, 28:10.6; and freshman Adam Whitcomb, ninety-seven,
28:38.5.
The Red Raiders travel to the Gardner Golf Course to compete in the District
Championship on Saturday, November 8, with the Division I race scheduled to get
underway at 10:30 a.m.
October 20, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
cross country team lost their final dual meet of the season to the North
Middlesex Patriots, 19-40, Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Brandon Davis, who finished third in 17:16.
Teammates Chris Howe, sixth, 17:54; Nick Balaguer, ninth, 18:11; Dan Finn, tenth,
18:21; and Tyler Boudreau, sxteenth, 19:54, rounded out the top five
for Fitchburg.
Also running well were Michael Gross, seventeenth, 20:34; Jon Vander Hamm,
eighteenth, 21:17; Christian Santiago, twenty-first, 21:45; Chris MacLean, twenty-fifth,
23:45; Adam Whitcomb, twenty-seventh, 26:43; Brian Fitzgibbons, twenty-ninth, 27:13;
and Manny Torres, thirty-fisrt, 27:56.
The Red Raiders travel to Marlboro’s Ghiloni Park Wednesday afternoon to compete in
the Mid-Wach A Cross Country Championships, with the boys’ varsity race scheduled to
get underway at 3:00 p.m.
October 18, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a twelfth place finish at the 51st Annual Wachusett Invitational
Cross Country Championships held Saturday afternoon at Wachusett Regional High
School in Holden.
In the Class A 5k Varsity Race the Red Raiders were led by Chris Carbone, who
finished thirty-second, 19:13. Brandon Davis, fifty, 19:40; Chris Howe,
sixty-fifth, 20:00; Dan Finn, eighty-fisrt, 21:08; and Tyler Boudreau,
eighty-fourth, 21:18, completed the team scoring for Fitchburg. In the Class A 5k Junior
Varsity Race Fitchburg was led by Mike Gross, forty-sixth, 22:36; Jon Vander Hamm,
sixty, 23:17; Christian Santiago, eighty, 24:36; and Manny Torres, ninety-fourth, 30:32.
In the All-Freshmen 5k Race Chris MacLean was one-hundred and third, 26:09, and
Adam Whitcomb, one-hundred and thirteen, 28:01.
Fitchburg hosts North Middlesex Regional next Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park
with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 14, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team lost their seventh dual meet of the season, losing to Mid-Wach A rival,
Wachusett Regional, 17-46, at Coggshall Park.
Fitchburg was lead by Brandon Davis, who finished fourth with a time of 17:21.
Rounding out the top five for the Red Raiders were Dan Finn, thirteenth, 18:38; Nick
Balaguer, fifteenth, 18:51; Chris Carbone, sixteenth, 18:59; and Mike Gross,
twenty-second, 20:36. Also running well for the Red Raiders were Jon Vander Hamm,
twenty-fourth, 22:01; Christian Santiago, twenty-sixth, 24:25; Chris MacLean,
twenty-seventh, 27:46; Adam Whitcomb, twenty-eighth, 29:08; Manny Torres,
twenty-ninth, 30:58, and Lee McFadden, thirty, 38:31.
Fitchburg travels to Wachusett Regional this Saturday afternoon to compete in the 51st
Annual Wachusett Invitational X-Country Meet with the Varsity race scheduled to get
underway at 2:00 p.m.
October 6, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team saw their
record fall to 0-6, losing to the Algonquin Regional, 15-48, Monday afternoon on the Tomahawks’ 3.0 mile
course.
Brandon Davis led the Red Raiders finishing sixth in 18:48; while teammates Chris Howe, 19:08, ninth;
Nick Balaguer, 19:56, fifteenth; Dan Finn, 20:14, eighteenth; and Mike Gross, 22:00, rounded out the top
five for Fitchburg. Also running well were: Cameron Trodello, 22:08, thirty-fifth; Christian Santiago,
24:11, forty-fifth; Chris MacLean, 27:34, fifty-second; and Adam Whitcomb, 33:01, fifty-fourth.
Fitchburg hosts Wachusett Regional next Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park with that race scheduled to
get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 4, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team turned in a number of fine performances at the 17th Annual Bob McIntyre
Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday morning at Franklin Park in
Boston. In the 5k Varsity Division I race the Red Raiders were represented by Chris Carbone, 19:00,
185th; Brandon Davis, 19:01, 187th; Nick Balaguer, 20:20, 300th; and Dan Finn, 20:28, 309th.
In the 5k Junior Varsity Division I race Mike Gross finished 375th, 23:10; while Christian Santiago, 24:14,
409th; Jon Vander Hamm, 24:28, 415th; and Brian Fitzgibbons, 26:44, 449th. In the 3k Freshmen race
Chris Howe finished 58th, while Chris MacLean finished 346th, 15:36; and Adam Whitcomb finished
362nd in 18:30.
Fitchburg travels to North Middlesex Regional Tuesday afternoon with that race
scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 2, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team was
defeated by the Parker School, 23 to 33, Thursday afternoon at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for Fitchburg were Chris Carbone, 17:23, second; and Brandon Davis, 17:35, third; while
Chris Howe, 18:47, eighth; Dan Finn, 19:03, ninth; and Tyler Boudreau, 19:35, eleventh, rounded out the
top five for Fitchburg. Also running well for the Red Raiders were: Mike Gross, 21:17, seventeenth;
Cameron Trodello, 21:39, eighteenth; Jon Vander Hamm, 21:59, nineteenth; Chris MacLean, 24:59,
twenty-fifth; Christian Santiago, 25:10, twenty-sixth; Martin Ortiz, 26:02, twenty-eighth; Brian Fitzgibbons,
27:34, thirty-third; and Adam Whitcomb, 35:11, thirty-seventh.
The Red Raiders travel to Franklin Park Saturday morning to compete in the 17th Annual
Bob McIntyre Baystate Cross Country Invitational Meet with the first race scheduled to get
underway at 9:30 a.m.
September 29, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost
their fourth meet of the season, falling to Milford, 23-32, in a closely contested dual meet run on the Scarlet
Hawks’ 2.7 mile home course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg was Brandon Davis, who finished second in 15:55; while Chris Howe, 16:22,
fifth; Nick Balaguer, 16:50, sixth; Dan Finn, 17:21, ninth; and Chris Carbone, 17:35, tenth, completed the
scoring for the Red Raiders. Also running well for Fitchburg were: Tyler Boudreau, 18:21, thirteenth;
Cameron Trodello, 19:09, fifteenth; Jon Vander Hamm, 19:22, eighteenth; Mike Gross, 19:33, twentieth;
Christian Santiago, 21:03, twenty-fifth; Martin Ortiz, 23:02, thirtieth; Brian Fitzgibbons, 23:52, thirty-first;
Chris MacLean, 24:52, thirty-third; Adam Whitcomb, 26:29, thirty-fourth; and Manuel Torres, 30:04,

September 22, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team saw
their record fall to 0-3, losing to Shrewsbury, 20-41, at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders over the 2.9 mile course was Chris Carbone, third, while Brandon
Davis, 17:16, while Nick Balaguer, 18:55, fifteenth; Chris Howe, 18:59, sixteenth; and Dan Finn, 19:29,
seventeenth, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well for the Red raiders were: Tyler
Boudreau, 19:45, eighteenth; Cameron Trodello, 20:16, twenty-second; Mike Gross, 22:04, twenty-sixth;
Jon Vander Hamm, 22:11, twenty-seventh; Christian Santiago, 23:35, twenty-ninth; Martin Ortiz, 24:34,
thirty-first; Chris MacLean, 27:42, thirty-third; Adam Whitcomb, 32:45, thirty-fourth; Manuel Torres,

September 15, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team lost
their second meet of the season, dropping their home opener to Oakmont Regional, 22 to 34, Monday
afternoon at Coggshall Park.
Leading the Red Raiders over the 2.9 mile course was Chris Carbone, fourth, 17:38; Brandon Davis, 17:56,
fifth; and Nick Balaguer, 18:57, sixth; while Chris Howe, 19:01, eighth; and Dan Finn, 19:34, eleventh;
completed the scoring for Fitchburg. Also running well for Fitchburg were: Tyler Boudreau, 20:21,
thirteenth; Cameron Trodello, 21:03, sixteenth; Patrick Hodges, seventeenth; Mike Gross, 22:28,
nineteenth; Jon Vander Hamm, 23:21, twenty-first; Christian Santiago, 27:31, twenty-fourth; Chris
MacLean, 31:08, twenty-sixth; and Adam Whitcomb, 34:26, twenty-eighth.

country team opened their season on the road, losing to arch-rival Leominster, 21-39, Monday afternoon on
the Blue Devils’ 2.9 mile home course.
Fitchburg was led by Brandon Davis, third, 17:51, while Chris Carbone, fourth, 18:07; while teammates Chris
Howe, 19:26, ninth; Dan Finn, 20:02, tenth; and Cameron Trodello, 20:50, fifteenth, rounded out the top
five. Also running well for Fitchburg were Mike Gross, 21:56, nineteenth; Jon Vander Hamm, 22:56,
twenty-first; Martin Ortiz, 30:11, twenty-ninth; and Adam Whitcomb, 34:33, thirty-third.
