December 12, 2005- Named Sentinel & Enterprise All-Stars for the 2005 cross country season were senior Mike Carbone and junior Garrett Malouin.
November 19, 2005 - Fitchburg High Scool junior Garrett Malouin concluded a stellar cross country season for the Red Raiders, finishing 86th overall Saturday afternoon at the Division I State Cross Country Championship held at Franklin Park, Roxbury. Malouin's time of 17:33 over the 5k course improved his previous best on the course by 31 seconds, and was a personal best at that distance.
November 12, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team celebrated the conclusion of the 2005 cross country season Saturday
afternoon at a luncheon reception held at Slattery’s Restaurant.
Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were senior Mike Carbone, who
received the Most Valuable Runner; junior Garrett Malouin, the annual Mark
Gionet Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the
Most Improved Runner, which went to senior Mike Bellio, who has improved his
personal record on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 19:23 to 16:51, a cumulative
improvement of 2:32 in only two seasons; the Coach's Award went to junior Josh
Shea for his dedication and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award,
which went to first year runner Peter Adams.
These athletes, along with seniors Kris Maillet, Rafael Ferreira, and Matt Mello; junior
Devan Glenny; sophomore Eric Faucher; and freshman Cameron Trodello, all received
certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School
cross country.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team and everyone else who
contributed to the team's success throughout the 2005 season.
November 12, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to an eighth place finish at the District E, Division I Cross Country
Championships held Saturday morning at the Gardner Golf Course.
Leading the way for Fitchburg over the 2.9 mile course was junior Garrett Malouin, who
finished fifteenth in 15:36. Seniors Mike Carbone, twentieth, 15:47 and Mike Bellio,
thirty-fifth, 16:23; junior Devan Glenny, forty-eighth, 16:30; and senior Kris Maillet,
one-hundred and twenty-second, 18:17, completed the team scoring. Freshman, Peter
Adams, one-hundred and thirty-two, 18:33, and sophomore Eric Faucher, one-hundred
and forty-six, 19:20, comprised the rest of the varsity team representing the Red Raiders.
Malouin's performance in the meet qualified him for next Saturday's State Championship
to be held at Franklin Park, Roxbury, with the men's Division I race scheduled to start at
12:00 p.m.
November 1, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team clinched first place in Mid-Wach A with a 25-30 victory over North Middlesex Regional Tuesday afternoon on the Patriots 3.1 mile course in Townsend. The victory concluded a stellar 5-1 dual meet season.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Garrett Malouin, who finished first in 17:39. Mike Carbone, fourth, 17:46; Mike Bellio, fifth, 18:27; Devan Glenny, sixth, 18:43; and Peter Adams, eighth, 19:25, rounded out the top five for Fitchburg.
Also running well for Fitchburg were Kris Maillet, twelth, 20:33; Eric Faucher, fifteenth, 21:56; Cameron Trodello, eighteenth, 22:33; Rafael Ferreira, ninteenth, 24:23; Matt Mello, twentieth, 25:56; and Josh Shea, twenty-second, 26:53.
The Red Raiders will take the next two weeks to train and prepare for the Central Massachusetts State Qualifier to be held Saturday, November 12, at the Gardner Golf Course, with the Division I race scheduled to go off at 11:00 a.m.
October 29, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team stunned the rest of the field Saturday afternoon to earn first place at the Mid-Wach A Championship Meet held at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough. Fitchburg last accomplished this feat in 1993. Click here for a picture of the team.
Leading the way for Fitchburg in the Varsity A Race over the 5k course was junior Garrett Malouin, who finished second in 18:04.9. Seniors Mike Carbone, ninth, 18:32.3, and Mike Bellio, twelth, 18:49.4; junior Devan Glenny, sixteenth, 19:00; freshman Peter Adams, thirty-second, 20:19.8, senior Kris Maillet, forty-fifth, 21:44.1; and sophomore Eric Faucher, forty-seventh, 23:46.1, comprised the rest of the varsity team. Malouin, Carbone, and Bellio earned Mid-Wach A All-Star honors for their performances in the meet.
Also representing Fitchburg in the All-Class Junior Varsity Race were freshman Cameron Trodello, one-hundred and seventh, 24:01.1; and seniors Rafael Ferreira, one-hundred and twenty-ninth, 25:41.9; and Matt Mello, one-hundred and forty-first, 26:53.5.
The Red Raiders travel to North Middlesex Regional this Tuesday afternoon with that race scheduled to
get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 22, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a ninth place finish at the Forty-Ninth Annual Wachusett Invitational
Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at Wachusett Regional High School
in Holden.
In the Class A 2.4 mile Varsity Race the Red Raiders were led by Garrett Malouin, who
finished eighteenth, 13:18. Mike Carbone, twenty-first, 13:23; Mike Bellio, twenty-third,
13:30; Rafael Ferreira, seventy-sixth, 18:35; and Josh Shea, seventy-eighth, 19:51; completed the
team scoring for Fitchburg. In the All-Freshmen Race Peter Adams was fifteenth in 14:58,
while Cameron Trodello was forty-seventh in 17:16.
The Red Raiders travel to Marlboro’s Ghiloni Park this Saturday afternoon to compete in
the Mid-Wach A Cross Country Championships, with the boys’ varsity race scheduled to get
underway at 2:45 p.m.
October 20, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team swept a double-dual meet from Algonquin Regional, 25-30, and Leominster, 22-33, Thursday afternoon on the Red Raiders 2.9 mile course at Coggshall Park. With the two victories Fitchburg improved to 4-1 on the season.
Against arch-rival Leominster junior Garrett Malouin finished first with a career best 16:13, while teammates Mike Carbone, 16:28, second; Mike Bellio, 16:51, fifth; Devan Glenny, 17:04, sixth; and Peter Adams, 17:51, eighth, completed the team scoring. Versus Algonquin, Malouin finished first once again, with Carbone, third; Bellio, fifth; Glenny, seventh; and Adams, ninth completed the team scoring in that meet.
Also running well were Kris Maillet, 19:08, nineteenth; Eric Faucher, 21:01, thirty-second; Cameron Trodello, 21:34, thirty-fifth; Rafael Ferreira, 22:46, thirty-ninth; Matt Mello, 24:24, forty-second; and Josh Shea, 24:44, forty-sixth.
Fitchburg travels to Holden Saturday morning to compete in the Forty-Eighth Wachusett Invitational Cross Country Meet with the Varsity scheduled to run at 11:15 a.m.
October 6, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team pulled off a major upset, defeating Wachusett Regional, 27-29, on the
Mountaineers’ 3.1 mile home course. The dual meet victory ended an eleven year losing
streak for the Red Raiders dating back to 1993, and improved Fitchburg’s 2005 record to
2-1.
Fitchburg was lead by Mike Carbone, who finished first with a time of 18:14. Securing
the victory were Garrett Malouin, third, 18:21; Mike Bellio, fifth, 18:40; Devan Glenny,
seventh, 19:02; and Peter Adams, eleventh, 19:55. Also running well for the Red Raiders
were Kris Maillet, thirty-first, 21:51; Mike Dateo, thirty-second, 21:54; Eric Faucher,
forty-first, 23:26; Cameron Trodello, forty-fourth, 25:05; Rafael Ferreiras, forty-fifth,
25:32; and Matt Mello, forty-seventh, 26:16.
Fitchburg hosts Algonquin Regional and Leominster in a rare double-dual meet next Thursday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
October 1, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country team ran to a 38th place finish out of fifty teams at the 14th Annual Bob McIntyre Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston. In the 5k Varsity Division I race the team of Mike Carbone, 79th, 17:37; Garrett Malouin, 144th, 18:04; Mike Bellio, 192nd, 18:31; Devan Glenny, 239th, 19:26; Kris Maillet, 314th, 21:03; and Mike Dateo, 318th, 21:27; combined for the team score.
In the 5k Junior Varsity Division I race Eric Faucher finished 307th, 22:08; Rafael Ferreira, 435th, 24:49; Matt Mello, 445th, 25:07; and Josh Shea, 472nd, 27:53; while in the 3k Freshmen Division I race, Peter Adams ran an outstanding race finishing 25th overall in 11:21.
The Red Raiders travel to Wachusett Regional this Tuesday afternoon with that race scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
September 23, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team evened it’s record at 1-1, defeating the Milford Scarlet Hawks, 20-36,
Thursday afternoon at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for Fitchburg with a one through three sweep were senior Mike Carbone,
who finished first over the 2.9 mile course in 16:41; followed by junior Garrett Malouin, second,
17:09; and senior Mike Bellio, third, 17:31, which clinched the meet for the Red Raiders.
Junior Devan Glenny, fifth, 18:08, and freshman Peter Adams, ninth, 18:36, completed the
top five for Fitchburg.
Also running well for the Red Raiders were Mike Dateo, tenth, 19:16; Kris Maillet,
seventeenth, 20:28; Eric Faucher, twenty-fourth, 21:57; Rafael Ferreira, twenty-sixth,
22:44; Cameron Trodello, thirtieth, 24:23; Matt Mello, thirty-first, 24:35; and
Josh Shea, thirty-third, 25:18.
The Red Raiders travel to Franklin Park this Saturday afternoon to compete in the 14th McIntyre Invitational with the first race scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
September 19, 2005 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team saw it’s initial record fall to 0-1, losing to unbeaten Shrewsbury, 18-43, Monday afternoon
on the Colonials' 3.2 mile home course.
Finishing third in the race was Mike Carbone, who covered the distance in 19:45, while
teammates Devan Glenny, eighth, 20:37; Mike Bellio, ninth, 21:07; Peter Adams, seventeenth,
22:24; and Mike Dateo, ninteenth, 22:56; rounded out the top five for Fitchburg. Also running well for the Red Raiders were Alex Mercado, twenty-second, 23:10; Eric Faucher, twenty-seventh, 25:20; Kris Maillet, thirtieth, 26:32; Cameron Trodello, thirty-first, 27:11; Rafael Ferreira, thirty-second, 28:08; and Josh Shea, thirty-third, 35:00.
The Red Raiders host Milford this coming Thursday afternoon at Coggshall Park with the race
scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
