November 8, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross country
team celebrated the conclusion of the 2003 cross country season Saturday afternoon at a
luncheon reception held at Slattery’s Restaurant.
Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were senior Everette Pankey,
who received the Most Valuable Runner, along with the annual Mark Gionet
Award for the first Fitchburg High School runner versus Leominster; the Most
Improved Runner, which went to senior Dan Kirouac, who has improved his personal record
on the 2.9 mile Coggshall course from 22:16 to 18:50, a cumulative improvement of 3:26
over two seasons; the Coach's Award went to senior Kevin Carriere for
his leadership and commitment to the team; and the Freshman Award, which
went to Robert Richard, as the most improved runner amongst the freshmen.
These athletes, along with seniors Craig Babineau, Loi Trieu, Justin Kemp, and Jeremy Reid; junior Craig Fiore; sophomores Mike Carbone and Kris Maillet; and freshmen Garrett Malouin, Devan Glenny, Chris Coleman, James Ball, and Nathan Cote, all received certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication to Fitchburg High School cross country.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate his team and everyone else who
contributed to the team's success throughout the 2003 season.
November 8, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross country team ran to a ninth place finish for the second consecutive year Saturday morning at the M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts Division I Cross Country Championships held at the Gardner Golf Course.
Fitchburg was once again led over by seniors Everette Pankey, 16:07, twenty-seventh; Craig Babineau, fortieth, 16:23; Loi Trieu, forty-second, 16:25; and Jeremy Reid, forty-fourth, 16:27; along with sophomore Mike Carbone, fifty-second, 16:39, to complete the team scoring for the Red Raiders. Seniors Kevin Carriere, 17:14, and Dan Kirouac, 18:02, also represented Fitchburg in the race, finishing sixty-ninth, and one-hundred and seventh, respectfully, over the 2.9 mile course.
The Red Raiders will conclude their season this afternoon with a luncheon reception at Slattery’s Restaurant directly following the conclusion of today’s races.
October 25, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team rose to the occasion Saturday afternoon, outdistancing Shrewsbury and
Milford for second place at the Mid-Wach A League Cross Country Championships held
Saturday afternoon at Coggshall Park. The Red Raiders put together their finest effort of
the season averaging 16:30.6 a man to earn the runner-up spot. The meet was won by
defending state champion Wachusett Regional, which once again crushed the field,
finishing with 17 points overall. The final team scores in the meet were Wachusett
Regional, 17, Fitchburg, 66, Shrewsbury, 84, Milford, 105, Algonquin Regional, 118,
North Middlesex, 136, and Leominster, 185.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders in the Varsity Race over the 2.9 mile course were seniors Everette Pankey, sixth, 15:59.75; Loi Trieu, tenth, 16:20.01; Jeremy Reid, fifteenth, 16:42.85; Craig Babineau, sixteenth, 16:43.83; sophomore Mike Carbone, nineteenth, 16:46.08; and seniors Kevin Carriere, thirty-fourth, 17:36.94; and Dan Kirouac, forty-fourth, 18:50.32. By finishing in the top ten Pankey and Trieu were named Mid-Wach A All-Stars.
Also representing Fitchburg in the Junior Varsity Race were freshmen Chris Coleman,
fifteenth, 19:04.33; James Ball, sixteenth, 19:08.07; Devan Glenny, seventeenth,
19:08.23; sophomore Kris Maillet, thirty-eighth, 20:42.91; and freshman Robert Richard,
sixty-second, 23:09.10.
The Red Raiders will take the next two weeks to train and prepare for the Central
Massachusetts State Qualifier to be held Saturday, November 8, at the Gardner Gold
Course, with the Division I race scheduled to go off at 11:30 a.m.
October 18, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a sixth place finish at the Forty-Seventh Annual Wachusett
Invitational Cross Country Championships held Saturday afternoon at Wachusett
Regional High School.
In the Class A 2.4 mile Varsity Race the Red Raiders were led by Everette Pankey, who
finished fifteenth, 13:18; Jeremy Reid, twenty-third, 13:36; Craig Babineau, twenty-fifth,
13:42; Loi Trieu, thirty-eighth, 13:58; Kevin Carriere, forty-eighth, 14:31; and Dan
Kirouac, fifty-fourth, 15:12; completed the team scoring for Fitchburg.
In the Class A Junior Varsity race Kris Maillet finished fortieth in 16:35, while in the
All-Freshmen Race Chris Coleman was eleventh, 15:01; Devan Glenny, eighteenth,
15:32; and Robert Richard, fifty-seventh, 18:55. In the Middle School Race the top
runner for the Fitchburg Middle School cross country team was Josh Gallant, from
Academy Street, who finished eighty-seventh in10:30.
The Red Raiders host the Mid-Wach A Cross Country Championships this Saturday
afternoon at Coggshall Park with the boys’ varsity race scheduled to get underway at 2:00
p.m.
October 14, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team evened it’s record at 3-3, defeating the Milford Scarlet Hawks, 21-36,
Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park.
Leading the way for Fitchburg was senior Everette Pankey, who finished first over the 2.9
mile course in 16:20; while fellow seniors Loi Trieu, second, 16:30; Craig Babineau,
fourth, 16:37; and Jeremy Reid, fifth, 16:47, gave Fitchburg four of the top five spots
against the Hawks. Clinching the meet for the Red Raiders was Craig Fiore, who finished ninth in 17:36; while teammates Kevin Carriere, tenth, 17:38; and Mike Carbone, eleventh, 17:51; acted as displacements to complete the scoring.
Also running well for the Red Raiders were Chris Coleman, fourteenth, 19:00; Dan
Kirouac, sixteenth, 19:07; Devan Glenny, seventeenth, 19:15; Kris Maillet, twenty-third,
21:05; James Ball, twenty-sixth, 25:03; Robert Richard, twenty-seventh, 25:07; and
Nathan Cote, twenty-eighth, 26:04.
The Red Raiders travel to Wachusett Regional Saturday afternoon to compete in the
Forty-seventh Annual Wachusett Invitational Cross Country Meet with the Class A
Varsity Race scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m.
October 7, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team saw it’s record fall to 2-3, losing to unbeaten Shrewsbury in a closely contested
meet, 27-28, Tuesday afternoon on the Colonials’ 3.4 mile home course.
Finishing first in the race was Everette Pankey, who covered the distance in 19:24, while
teammates Loi Trieu, fifth, 19:57; Craig Babineau, sixth, 20:00; Jeremy Reid, seventh,
20:14; and Kevin Carriere, ninth, 20:45; completed the scoring for Fitchburg.
Also running well for the Red Raiders were Craig Fiore, eleventh, 21:05; Mike Carbone,
twelfth, 21:15; James Ball, fifteenth, 22:14; Chris Coleman, nineteenth, 22:53; Devan
Glenny, twentieth, 22:56; Dan Kirouac, twenty-first, 23:58; Kris Maillet, twenty-fourth,
25:34; Robert Richard, twenty-sixth, 29:15; and Nathan Cote, twenty-seventh, 35:00.
The Red Raiders host Milford next Tuesday afternoon at Coggshall Park with the race
scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
October 4, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s cross
country team ran to a 23rd place finish at the 12th Annual Bob McIntyre Cross Country Bay State Invitational Meet held Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston. In the 5k Varsity Division I race the team of Loi Trieu, 105th, 18:00.60; Craig Babineau, 123rd, 18:10.64; Mike Carbone, 149th, 18:27.35; Everette Pankey, 150th, 18:29.01; Jeremy Reid, 152nd, 18:30.07; Craig Fiore, 153rd, 18:30.84; and Kevin Carriere, 193rd, 19:12.69; combined for the team score.
In the Junior Varsity Division I race representing the Red Raiders were Justin Kemp,
119th, 20:10.38, and Kris Maillet, 310th, 23:41.96; while competing in the Freshmen 3k
race were Jamie Ball, 109th, 12:03.32; Chris Coleman, 137th, 12:24.13; Devan Glenny,
197th, 12:50.84; and Robert Richard, 417th, 14:49.13.
Fitchburg travels to Shrewsbury Tuesday afternoon for an important Mid-Wach A
matchup with that race scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
September 29, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
cross country team continued to show steady improvement, defeating the Leominster Blue
Devils, 22-35, Monday afternoon at Coggshall Park.
For the second year in a row Everette Pankey finished first in the race, covering the 2.9
miles in 16:18. Teammates Loi Trieu, 16:46, and Craig Babineau, 16:54; also broke the
seventeen minute barrier to finish third, and fourth, respectively. Jeremy Reid, fifth,
17:21; Mike Carbone, ninth, 17:38; Kevin Carriere, tenth, 17:54; and Garrett Malouin,
eleventh, 17:55; completed the team scoring for Fitchburg.
Also running well for the Red Raiders were Craig Fiore, twelth, 18:40; Justin Kemp,
sixteenth, 19:16; Chris Coleman, eighteenth, 20:18; Devan Glenny, nineteenth, 20:19; Kris
Maillet, twenty-third, 22:21; and Robert Richard, twenty-ninth, 24:44.
The Red Raiders travel to Franklin Park Saturday morning to compete in the 12th Annual
Bob McIntyre Baystate Cross Country Invitational Meet with the first race scheduled to
get underway at 10:00 a.m.
September 25, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
cross country team earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-2, by defeating
Mid-Wach A rival North Middlesex Regional, 25-30, Thursday afternoon on the Patriots’ 3.1 mile home course.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Craig Babineau, who
finished second in 18:31, while teammates Everette Pankey, fourth, 18:39; Craig Fiore,
fifth, 18:40; Loi Trieu, sixth, 18:46; and Mike Carbone, eighth, 18:59, completed the
scoring for Fitchburg.
Also running well for Fitchburg were Garret Malouin, eleventh, 19:12; Kevin Carriere, twelth,
19:56; Jamie Ball, fourteenth, 21:57; Devan Glenny, fifteenth, 23:13; and Robert Richard,
twenty-first, 33:41.
The Red Raiders host Leominster next Monday afternoon with the race scheduled to
get underway at 3:30 p.m.
September 22, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men's cross
country team lost to defending Division I State Champion Wachusett Regional, 15-45,
Monday afternoon on the Mountaineers’ home course.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders over the 3.0 mile course was Loi Trieu, who finished
sixth in 18:20. Craig Babineau, eighth, 18:25; Mike Carbone, ninth, 18:36; Everette
Pankey, tenth, 19:04; and Garrett Malouin, fourteenth, 19:29, rounded out Fitchburg’s top
five.
Also running well were: Kevin Carriere, fifteenth, 19:39; Danny Kirouac, sixteenth, 20:04;
James Ball, eighteenth, 20:17; and Devan Glenny, twenty-fourth, 21:46.
The Red Raiders travel to North Middlesex Regional this Thursday afternoon. Race time
is 3:30 p.m.
September 16, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
cross country team opened their dual meet season Tuesday afternoon with a loss, as the
Algonquin Regional Tomahawks upset the Red Raiders at Coggshall Park, 19-38.
Avoiding the sweep of the top three positions by the Tomahawks over the 2.9 mile course
was Everette Pankey, who finished third in 17:03. Teammates Craig Babineau, 17:31,
sixth; Mike Carbone, 17:49, eighth; Craig Fiore, 18:00, tenth; and Garrett Malouin, 18:11,
eleventh; were the rest of Fitchburg’s top five runners.
Also running well for Fitchburg were Kevin Carriere, 19:41, fourteenth; Dan Kirouac,
19:08, sixteenth; Jamie Ball, 20:07, twenty-second; Chris Coleman, 20:09, twenty-fourth;
Devan Glenny, 20:11, twenty-fifth; Kris Maillet, 22:41, forty-third; and Robert Richard,
24:41, fiftieth.
The Red Raiders next meet is Monday afternoon in Holden when they race defending
Massachusetts Division I State Cross Country Champion, Wachusett Regional, at the
Mountaineers home course scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
