June 17, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's 2008
outdoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the season Tuesday afternoon in
the Fitchburg High School "Cafe", with a "Pizza Party" sponsored by the
teams' coaches. The pizza party was followed by the presentation of individual
and team awards provided by the Fitchburg High School coaching staff, and the athletic
department.
Athletes recognized for their contribution to this years team included seniors Timothy
Douglas and Brian Conroy; junior Anthony Colon; sophomore Tyler Boudreau;
and freshman Jon Vander Hamm. For the second year in a row Douglas received the
Most Valuable Athlete; Conroy, the Coaches' Award; Boudreau and
Colon, Most Improved Athletes; and Vander Hamm, the Freshman
Award. Varsity and Junior Varsity Awards were also presented to all athletes who
have earned the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard
work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.
Coach Ambrose, Moore, Scott, and Woods would like to personally congratulate the
men's team, and all others who contributed to the programs success throughout the 2008
season.
June 10 & 11, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens
outdoor track & field team combined for a sixteenth place finish in the team standings at
the 26th Annual Central Massachusetts District E Decathlon, held at the College of the
Holy Cross. One hundred and thirty-five athletes representing more than twenty-five
teams competed in the two day event that features the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump,
high jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 110 meter high hurdles, 400 meters and 1500 meters.
The Red Raiders team was comprised of sophomores Patrick Hodges and Tyler
Boudreau, and freshman Jon Vander Hamm, who finished 40th, 4,299 points, and 91st,
3,248 points, and 133rd, 1,448 points, respectively, for the team total of 8,995 points.
June 2, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team ran to a twenty-sixth place finish at the 2008 M.I.A.A. Central
Massachusetts Track & Field Championship held Monday afternoon at Fitchburg State
College.
Fitchburg was led by seniors Tim Douglas, who finished fifth in the discus with a
distance of 131 10, and twelfth in the javelin with a throw of 142 7; and Ismail Disu,
who finished fifth in the 100 meters, 11.71, and sixteenth in the long jump, 19 2.75.
Disu also combined with Joel Gomez, Patrick Hodges, and Hamed Akanni, to finish
fifteenth in the 400 meter relay, 47.67.
Also competing for the Red Raiders were Steve Silvar, who finished ninth in the shot
put, 42 3, and eleventh in the discus, 121 8; Akanni, ninth, high jump, 5 8; Gomez,
Hodges, Johann Schuerman, and Babatunde Ogunleye, 1600 meter relay, thirteenth,
3:36.97; Gomez, triple jump, fourteenth, 39 11.5; and Schuerman, 110 meter high
hurdles, fifteenth, 17.43.
The Red Raiders complete their season next Tuesday and Wednesday when they travel to
the College of the Holy Cross to compete in the 26th Annual District E Central
Massachusetts Decathlon with both days getting underway at 3:30 p.m.
May 29, 2008 - Selected as a Midland-Wachusett A League
All-Star for 2008 was senior Tim Douglas, by virtue of his first place performances in the
discus at the league championship meet held on Thursday, May 22nd, at Shrewsbury
High School.
May 22, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team finished fifth in the Mid-Wach A Championship Meet held
Thursday afternoon at Shrewsbury High School.
The Red Raiders had one first place performance in the meet, and four second place
performances, led by Tim Douglas, who won the discus, 140 1, and finished third in the
javelin, 150 6; while second place performances came from Steve Silvar, shot put, 45
2, and discus, 128 5; Hamed Akanni, high jump, 5 10; and Ismail Disu, 100 meters,
12.05.
Also scoring valuable points in the meet were Disu, Patrick Hodges, Akanni and Joel
Gomez, 400 meter relay, third, 46.97; Disu, long jump, fourth, 18 11.5; Johann
Schuermann, 110 meter high hurdles, fifth, 17.36, and pole vault, fifth, 10; Gomez, triple
jump, 39 5.25; Hodges, Babatunde Ogunleye, Glenn Lemieux, and Chris Carbone, 1600
meter relay, sixth, 3:53.16; and Carbone, Lemiuex, Michael Gross, and Jon Vander
Hamm, 3200 meter relay, sixth, 10:11.68.
The Red Raiders now prepare for the M.I.A.A. Central Massachusetts State
Qualifier hosted by Fitchburg State College schedules for Monday, June 2, with the meet
scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m.
May 17, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team finished ninth Saturday at the Forty-Seventh Annual Ralph A. Colson
Memorial Track & Field Class A Championship held at Crocker Field. The meet also
featured four Crocker Field records in
the 110 meter high hurdles, 200 meters, discus, and
1600 meter relay.
The Red Raiders were led Tim Douglas, who finished first in the discus with a throw of
127 8, and fifth in the javelin, 156 5. Also contributing to the teams efforts by
placing in the top six Steve Silvar, discus, second, 126 4, and sixth in the shot put, 44
4; the 400 meter relay team comprised of Ismail Disu, Noah Marceau, Hamed Akanni,
and Joel Gomez, fourth, 46.35; and Disu, 100 meters, fifth, 11.75, and long jump, sixth,
19 .75.
Other Fitchburg track & field athletes competing in the meet included Gomez, triple
jump, eighth, 39 1.25; Johann Schuerman, 110 meter high hurdles, eighth, 17.39, and
pole vault, ninth, 10 6; Anthony Colon, javelin, twelfth, 133 9; Babatunde Ogunleye,
400 meters, twelfth, 53.95; Tyler Boudreau, 110 meter high hurdles, seventeenth, 20.58,
and pole vault, nineteenth, 7 6; and Brian Conroy, pole vault, no height.

May 5, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor track
& field team could not hold on to the lead, losing to North Middlesex Regional, 74-71, in
the final event, the mile relay, Monday afternoon at the Patriots' home track in Townsend.
The Red Raiders were led by Ismail Disu, who captured three events, the long jump, 18
6, triple jump, 36 2.5, and the 100 yard dash, 10.3, while teammates Tim Douglas and
Johann Schuerman captured two events each. Douglas won the javelin, 150, and discus,
123 11, while Schuerman won the pole vault, 9 6, and 120 yard hurdles, 17.2. Also
finishing first were Hamed Akanni, high jump, 5' 8"; and Steve Silvar, shot put, 40
11.5.
Finishing second for Fitchburg were Anthony Colon, javelin, 119 8; Noah Marceau,
high jump, 5 6; Silvar, discus, 115 8; Schuerman, 300 meter intermediate hurdles,
46.9; and
Babatunde Ogunleye, 400 meters, 55.5. Completing the scoring with third place
performances were Joe Fanelli, shot put, 33 7; Nolan Connor, high jump, 5 2; Jon
Vander Hamm, two mile, 14:06.3; Tyler Boudreau, pole vault, 8 6, 120 yard high

May 3, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor track
& field discus team comprised Glenn Lemieux, Steve Silvar, and Tim Douglas captured
second place Saturday afternoon with a combined distance of 323 1", to lead the Red
Raiders to a ninth place finish overall at the 32nd Annual District E Robert Duncan
Invitational Division I Relays held at St. Johns of Shrewsbury home track.
Also scoring in the meet with top six performances was the javelin team comprised of
Douglas, Anthony Colon, and Tom Gammel, which finished fifth with a combined
distance of 370 4; the 800 meter relay team comprised of Ismail Disu, Noah Marceau,
Patrick Hodges, and Joel Gomez, fifth, 1:37.2; and the shot put relay team comprised of
Joe Fanelli, Silvar, and Marceau, sixth, 108 11.
Also competing for Fitchburg was the 400 relay team comprised of Disu, Colon,
Marceau, and Gomez, seventh, 47.9; the long jump team comprised of Gomez, Disu, and
Hodges, seventh, 52 7.25; the high jump team of Tyler Boudreau, Marceau, and
Hodges, eighth, 15 4; and the distance medley team comprised of Matt Serratore,
Boudreau,
Jon Vander Hamm, and Lemieux, sixteenth, 13:33.3.
The Red Raiders travel to North Middlesex Monday afternoon with that meet scheduled
to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
May 1, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team earned their second win of the season, defeating Mid-Wach A
opponent, Milford, 98-46, at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by multiple winner Johann Schuerman, who captured three
events. Schuerman picked up wins in the pole vault, 9' 6", 110 meter high hurdles, 17.2,
and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 46.8. Steve Silvar and Joel Gomez captured two
events each, as Silvar won the shot put, 41', and the discus, 127' 7", while Gomez
captured the triple jump, 39' 1.75", and 200 meters, 23.7. Gomez also teamed with
Anthony Colon, Hamed Akanni, and Ismail Disu to win the 400 meter relay in 48.1.
Individual wins went to Disu, 100 meters, 11.4; Glenn Lemieux, mile, 5:11.4; Akanni,
high jump, 5' 8"; Mat Serratore, 800 meters, 2:26.1; Babatunde Ogunleye, 400 meters,
56.0; the mile relay team comprised of Lemieux, Fedor Zahyneyko, Tom Gammel, and
Patrick Hodges, 4:07.4; and Tim Douglas, javelin, 157' 2".
Second place performances were turned in by Jon Vander Hamm, two mile, 13:23.5;
Tyler Boudreau, pole vault, 8' 6"; Hodges, 400 meters, 56.4; Douglas, javelin, 110' 6";
and Marceau, 200 meters, 24.2. Completing the scoring with third place performances
were Boudreau, 110 meter high hurdles, 20.6, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 49.6;
Marceau, 100 meters, 12.7; Brian Conroy, pole vault, 8'; Hodges, high jump, 5' 6";

April 17, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team lost their third dual meet of the season, 80-65, falling to Mid-Wach A
opponent, Algonquin Regional, at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by Joel Gomez, who captured three events, the long jump, 18'
10.25", triple jump, 40' 3.25", and 200 meters, 23.5. Gomez also anchored the 400 meter
relay team to victory, as he combined with Greg Mendez, Ismail Disu, and Anthony
Colon, to finish in 47.2. Steve Silvar captured two events, the shot put, 42 6.5, and
discus, 123' 3". Individual first place performances went to Hamed Akanni, high jump, 5'
8"; Tim Douglas, javelin, 157 8; and Disu, 100 meters, 11.5. Second place
performances went to Noah Marceau, high jump, 5' 6", 100 meters, 11.7, and 200 meters,
24.2; Douglas, discus, 110'; and Babatunde Ogunleye, 400 meters, 54.1. Completing the
scoring with third place performances were Tom Gammel, discus, 92' 5", and javelin,
116' 7"; Chris Carbone, two mile, 11:56.7; Johann Schuerman, pole vault, 9' 6", and 300
meter intermediate hurdles, 46.0; and Disu, long jump, 18' .25".
The Red Raiders travel to Algonquin Regional Saturday morning to compete in the
Mid-Wach Fr/So Meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
April 14, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor track
& field team saw their record fall to 1-2, losing to Mid-Wach A rival Shrewsbury, 91-54,
Monday afternoon at the Colonials' track.
The Red Raiders captured six events as Joel Gomez, captured the triple jump, 38' .5;
Johann Schuerman, 110 meter high hurdles, 17.8; Tim Douglas, javelin, 142' 9"; Steve
Silvar, discus, 130' 5"; Babatunde Ogunleye, 400 meters, 55.8; and the 1600 meter relay
team comprised of Glenn Lemieux, Fedor Zahynayko, Patrick Hodges, and Nolan
Connor, 4:09.5.
Second place performances were turned in by Hamed Akanni, high jump, 5 8; Silvar,
shot put, 43 1.25; Douglas, discus, 128 11; Schuerman, 300 meter intermediate
hurdles, 46.8; Ismail Disu, 100 meters, 12.2; and Gomez, 200 meters, 24.9. Completing
the scoring with third place performances were Gomez, long jump, 17 10; Jon Vander

April 10, 2008 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track
& field team split a double-dual meet Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field, defeating
Leominster, 84.5-60.5, while losing to Wachusett Regional, 87-58.
Against Leominster the Red Raiders were led by senior Ismail Disu, who captured three
events, the long jump, 18 6, 100 meters, 11.3, and 200 meters, 24.2; while fellow senior
Tim Douglas, captured two events, the javelin, 147 10, and discus, 125 11. Individual
firsts went to Johann Schuerman, pole vault, 9; Hamed Akanni, high jump, 5 10; Steve
Silvar, shot put, 41 4.5; Joel Gomez, triple jump, 39 2.25; and the 400 meter relay
team comprised of Noah Marceau, Anthony Colon, Akanni, and Gomez, 48.2. Finishing

Marceau, Anthony Colon, Akanni, and Gomez. Finishing second were Marceau, high
jump; Silvar, shot put, and discus; Disu, 100 meters, and 200 meters; and Schuerman,
300 meter intermediate hurdles. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Conroy,
pole vault; Connor, high jump; Boudreau, 110 meter high hurdles; Marceau, 100 meters;
and Ogunleye, 400 meters.
Fitchburg travels to Shrewsbury High School next Monday afternoon with that meet
