June 20, 2004 - Senior Kevin Carriere and junior Austin Douglas will be selected as a Worcester Telegram and Gazette All-Stars for 2004, for their first place finishes in the high jump, discus and javelin, respectively, at the MIAA Central Massachusetts Championships held on May 29 at Shrewsbury High School.
June 15, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the season Tuesday night in the Fitchburg High School “Cafe”, with a "Pot Luck" supper sponsored by the teams' parents, along with the presentation of individual and team awards provided by the coaching staff, and the Fitchburg High School athletic department.
Athletes recognized for their contribution to this year’s team included the Team Captains, Kevin Carriere, Adam Dufour, T.J. Loughlin, Shawn McGrady, and Everette Pankey; Carriere, the Most Valuable Performer; Dave Cosenza, the Coaches Awards; Mike Dateo, the Most Improved Athlete; Derek Paine, the Freshman Award; and Austin Douglas, the annual Bull Goose Loony Award (in memory of throwing Coach Jack Jerszyk). Varsity and Junior Varsity Awards were also presented to all athletes who have earned the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.

June 8 & 9, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
outdoor track & field team combined for a seventh place finish in the team standings at the 22nd Annual Central Massachusetts District E Decathlon, held at The College of the Holy Cross, in Worcester. The top seven teams in the meet were Oxford, Grafton, Westborough, Nipmuc, Wachusett Regional, Groton-Dunstable, and Fitchburg. One hundred and forty-two athletes representing twenty-three teams competed in the two day event that features the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 110 meter high hurdles, 400 meters and 1500 meters.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Austin Douglas, who finished 15th overall with 4,988
points, and in the process broke two Fitchburg High School decathlon records previously set by 2003 Decathlon Champion Ryan Logan in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 5.25”, and in the discus with a toss of 135’ 3”. Douglas combined with seniors Everette Pankey, 35th, 4,340 points, and Kevin Carriere, 40th, 4,180 points, for the team total of 14,322 points.
Also competing for Fitchburg were sophomores William Schuerman, 50th, 4,094 points; Mike Carbone, 70th, 3,709 points; Mike Dateo, 86th, 3,433 points; Mike Bellio, 96th, 3,218 points, and Conrad Hanno, 129th, 1,948 points.
June 7, 2004 - Named Sentinel & Enterprise 2004 All-Stars for spring track & field were seniors Kevin Carriere, Everette Pankey, and Shawn McGrady, along with junior Austin Douglas. These four athletes, along with winter and fall Sentinel & Enterprise All-Stars, will be honored tonight at the Four Points Sheraton starting at 6:00 p.m.
June 5, 2004- The Fitchburg High School’s men’s outdoor
track & field team demonstrated they could compete amongst the very best in
Massachusetts, placing two athletes in the top ten at the 2004 M.I.A.A. All State Track &
Field Championship held Saturday at Holyoke High School.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Austin Douglas, who placed seventh in the discus
with a throw of 145’ 9", and twenty-first in the javelin, 142’ 7". Senior team captain
Kevin Carriere had a career day in the high jump, clearing a personal best 6’ 3", to finish
tenth. Carriere actually equalled the fourth best jump in the event, but had to settle for
tenth overall based on misses.
Fitchburg concludes it season at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester this Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, competing in the 22st District E Central Massachusetts Decathlon scheduled to start each day at 3:30 p.m. The Red Raiders won the team and individualtitle in this event in 2003, and will be led in this year’s meet by the three man team of Carriere, Douglas, and senior Everette Pankey.
May 29, 2004- The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track & field team ran to a fourth place finish at the 2004 MIAA Central Massachusetts
Track & Field Championship held Saturday morning at Shrewsbury High School. The
Red Raiders finished with 36 points to secure their position in the meet behind team
champion Wachusett with 84 points, runner-up St. John’s with 77 points, and Class B
Champion Westboro, which finished with 48 points, rounded out the top four teams in the
tournament.
Fitchburg was led by the school record
breaking first place performance of junior Austin Douglas, who shattered the school
record in the discus with a toss of 155’ 11", besting Leo Laroche’s mark set in 1969 by 9’
1". Douglas also recorded first place in the javelin with a personal best toss of 170’, to be
the first Fitchburg High School athlete to win two individual district championships in the
field events in the school’s history. Douglas was further rewarded for his efforts at the
end of the meet when he was named recipient of the prestigious John Wallace Outstanding Male Athlete for his performances in both events.
Senior Kevin Carriere was the Red Raider’s other leading point scorer, leaping a
season best 6’ 2" to finish first in the high jump, while running 43.94 to finish fifth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. The 3200 meter relay team comprised of Craig
Babineau, Craig Fiore, Mike Carbone, and Everette Pankey completed the scoring for
Fitchburg, as they finished fourth in a season best 8:43.83.
Also competing for the Red Raiders were Pankey in the long jump, tenth, 19’
2.25"; Shawn McGrady, Mike Dateo, William Schuerman, T.J. Loughlin, 400 meter
relay, twelfth, 48.32; Catalino Mateo, McGrady, Carriere, and Phil McCormack, 1600
meter relay, fifteenth, 3:51.41; Loughlin, 100 meter dash, twenty-second, 12.63; and
McGrady in the pole vault.
Douglas, Carriere, and the 3200 meter relay team will represent Fitchburg High School at
this Saturday’s State Championships to be held at Holyoke High School with the field
events scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
May 25, 2004- Named Midland-Wachusett A League
All-Stars for 2004 were were seniors Kevin Carriere and Everette Pankey, along with junior Austin Douglas, for capturing first place in their respective events at the Mid-Wach A League Championships held May 20 at Shrewsbury High School.
May 20, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track & field team surprised the Mid-Wach A field, scoring 103 points, to finish third
overall at the 2004 Mid-Wach A Track & Field Championships held Thursday afternoon
at Shrewsbury High School. The final scores in the meet were Wachusett Regional, 122,
Shrewsbury, 110.5, Fitchburg, 103, Algonquin Regional, 85.5, Milford, 41, North
Middlesex Regional, 62, Leominster, 40, and Milford, 35.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Austin Douglas, who finished first in the javelin,
168’ 2.25", and the discus, 141’, and third in the 110 meter high hurdles, 16.66. Seniors
Kevin Carriere and Everette Pankey scored in multiple events for the Red Raiders as
Carriere finished first in the high jump, 6’, fourth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles,
43.91, and sixth in the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.15; while Pankey was first in the long
jump, 19’ 6", combined with Mike Carbone, Shawn McGrady, and Phil McCormack in
the 1600 meter relay to finish fourth in 3:47.85, and was fifth in the 400 meters, 53.9.

May 17, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
freshmen/sophomore outdoor track & field team turned in numerous top six performances
at the Mid-Wach A Frosh/Soph Track & Field Meet held Monday afternoon at North
Middlesex Regional High School.
Sophomore William Schuerman lead the way placing in four events, finishing first in the
long jump, 17’ 6", second in the triple jump, 37’ 1", third in the 200 meters, 25.2, while
combining with Josh Mathieu, Logan Johnson, and Mike Bellio in the 400 meter relay to
finish fourth in 50.3. Also having a strong meet was freshman Derek Paine who captured
the discus, 105’ 4", finished second in the javelin, 109’ 11", while combining with Robert
Agreda, Steve Merced, and Conrad Hanno in the mile relay to finish sixth in 4:35.8.
Mike Carbone and Johnson each picked up first place in their respective events, the mile,
4:52.9, and shot put, 35’ 9", with Carbone also scoring points in the 800 meters, finishing
third in 2:17.9, while Johnson added a sixth place finish in the discus with a throw of 76’
1".
Other top six performances included Mike Dateo, who finished third in the 100 meters,
12.1, and in the pole vault, 10’, while also finishing fifth in the 200 meters, 25.9; Merced, discus, third, 79’ 7"; Mathieu, 100 meters, third, 12.1; Dave Cosenza, high jump, sixth, 5’; and Bellio, 200 meters, sixth, 26.0.

May 15, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track & field team competed to a fourth place finish Saturday at the Forty-Third Annual
Ralph A. Colson Memorial Track & Field Class A Championship held at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by Kevin Carriere and Austin Douglas, as Carriere captured the
high jump with a leap of 6’, and was second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in
43.36; while Douglas was victorious in the javelin with a throw of 162’ 9", and was
second in the discus with a toss of 140’ 8". Shawn McGrady pole vaulted to a personal
best 11’ to finish second, and later teamed with Phil McCormack, Andrew Carreiro, and
Craig Fiore to finish fifth in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 3:49.63.
Contributing to the team’s efforts by placing in the top six were the 3200 meter relay
team comprised of Craig Babineau, Justin Kemp, Jeremy Reid, and Everette Pankey,

May 10, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track & field team suffered their third loss of the season, 82-63, to Mid-Wach A opponent
Shrewsbury Monday afternoon at the Colonials’ home track.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Austin Douglas, who won the discus, 136’, and
javelin, 163’ 1", while finishing third in the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.4. Kevin
Carriere was Fitchburg’s other big point scorer, finishing first in the high jump, 6’,
second in both the 110 meter high hurdles, 17.0, and 300 meter intermediate hurdles,
43.5, and was third in the triple jump, 38’ 3.75". Other first place performances were
turned in by Mike Carbone, two mile, 11:03.4; Everette Pankey, mile, 4:54.5; and the
1600 meter relay team comprised of Shawn McGrady, Andrew Carreiro, Phil
McCormack, and Pankey, 3:55.5.

track & field team improved to 4-2 on the season defeating Mid-Wach B opponent
Gardner, 100 to 40, in a dual meet held Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by senior Kevin Carriere who captured three events, the high
jump, 6’, the 110 meter high hurdles, 16.8, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 43.1.
Carriere also picked up second in the triple jump with a distance of 38’ 6". Junior Austin
Douglas was a double winner, capturing the discus with a throw of 123’ 1", and the
javelin with a toss of 150’. Douglas also picked up seconds in the 110 meter high
hurdles, 16.9, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 47.0. Individual wins for

defeat arch-rival Leominster, 95-50, Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by Kevin Carriere, who captured four events, the high jump, 5’
6", triple jump, 38’ 1", 110 meter high hurdles, 16.5, and the 300 meter intermediate
hurdles, 44.4. Everette Pankey and Austin Douglas captured two events each as Pankey
picked up wins in the long jump, 18’ 7", and mile, 4:47.7; while Douglas was first in the
discus, 137’ 10", and the javelin, 143’ 5". Individual wins went to Shawn McGrady, pole

May 1, 2004 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track & field team ran to an eighth place finish in Division I Saturday afternoon at the 28th
Annual District E Robert Duncan Invitational Relays held at Pioneer Field in Shrewsbury.
The Red Raiders scored 24 points overall to earn their position in a meet, while St. John’s
(Shrewsbury) literally ran away with the meet, outdistancing runner-up Westboro by 48
points, to finish first with a team total of 103 points.
The Red Raiders were led by three third place performances in the 14 event meet as the
high jump relay team comprised of Kevin Carriere, Dave Cosenza, and Catalino Mateo
cleared a combined height of 16’; the discus team comprised of Austin Douglas, Derek
Paine, and James Tata combined for a distance of 338’ 4"; and the javelin team comprised
of Douglas, Adam Dufour, and T.J. Loughlin combined for 422’ 6.5", to account for most
of Fitchburg’s points.
Also scoring for Fitchburg by placing in the top six were the triple jump team comprised
of Carriere, William Schuerman, and Mike Bellio, which finished fifth with a combined
distance of 108’ 11"; the distance medley team comprised of Mike Carbone, Andrew

track & field team suffered their second loss of the season to Algonquin Regional, 78.5 to
66.5, in a closely contested dual meet held Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Austin Douglas, who captured the discus with a
throw of 139’ 7", and the javelin, 158’, while finishing third in the 110 meter high
hurdles, 17.1, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 45.2. Individual wins went to

track & field team suffered their first dual meet loss since 2002, as they were humbled by
Mid-Wach A rival, Wachusett Regional, 93-52, at the Fred Warren Track & Field Facility
Friday afternoon in Holden.
The Red Raiders were led by Kevin Carriere and Austin Douglas who captured two
events each. Carriere was first in the high jump, 6’, and 300 meter intermediate hurdles,
43.4, while finishing second in both the110 meter high hurdles, 18.2, and the triple jump,
37’ 3.5". Douglas picked up first place finishes in the javelin, 159’, and in the discus,
135’11".
