June 18, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track team celebrated the conclusion of the outdoor season at a "Pot Luck" supper sponsored by the teams' parents, and the Fitchburg High School track & field coaching staff. The supper was hosted in the Fitchburg High School Cafe Thursday night.
Receiving recognition for their efforts were senior Ryan Logan, Most Valuable Performer; seniors Andrew Bisol and Adam Basilio, Coaches Awards; senior Chris Brodeur, Most Improved; Mike Carbone, Freshmen Award; and the seasonal Bull Goose Loony Award (in memory of throwing Coach Jack Jerszyk), presented to senior Steve Marrella. These athletes, along with forty-one others, received the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate the 2003 team and all others who contributed to the programs success throughout the 2003 season.
June 16, 2003 - Senior John Lewis II was announced as a Worcester Telegram and Gazette All-Star for 2003, for his first place finish in the discus at the MIAA Central Massachusetts Championships held on May 31 at Shrewsbury High School.
June 16, 2003 - Named Sentinel & Enterprise 2003 All-Stars for spring track & field were seniors Adam Basilio, Andrew Bisol, Chris Brodeur and John Lewis II. June 10 & 12, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens
outdoor track & field decathlon team comprised of Ryan Logan, 1st place (5,801 points), Chris Brodeur, 14th place (4,842 points), and Andrew Bisol, 29th place (4,423 points ), combined for a total of 15,066 points (a school record), to finish first overall in the team standings at the 21st Annual Central Massachusetts District E Decathlon held at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. The top five teams in the meet were Fitchburg, 15,066 points, Groton-Dunstable, 14,650 points, Westboro, 14,552 points, Wachusett, 14,333 points, and Tantasqua, 13,698 points. The decathlon is a two day event featuring the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 110 meter high hurdles, 400 meters and 1500 meters.
The Red Raiders were led for the second year in a row by senior Ryan Logan, who became the first individual decathlete champion in Fitchburg High School history with his point total, breaking numerous school records in the process. Logan set new Fitchburg High School decathlon records for total points overall; total points for a senior; discus, 110 2; shot put, 44 .5; and 110 meter high hurdles, 15.55, equalling the record set by James McCall in 1994. Junior Kevin Carriere also equalled a decathlon record in the high jump, joining Ray Boutotte (1988), Jim Darcangelo (1990), and Kevin Keenan (1996), by clearing the bar at 5 10.
Also competing for Fitchburg were: Adam Basilio, 43rd, 4,209 points; Kevin Carriere, 50th, 4,027 points; Mike Carbone, 69th, 3,238 points; Ethan Shea, 84th, 2,932 points;
Phil McCormack, 85th, 2,918 points; Chris Kanclerowicz, 86th, 2,913 points; Nathan Shea, 90th, 2,744; and Mike Dateo, 95th, 2,568 points.
The Red Raiders will celebrate the end of their season Wednesday night, June 18, at 6:00 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria with a "Pot Luck" supper. Including in the evening will be a power point presentation, team, and individual awards.
June 7, 2003- The Fitchburg High Schools mens outdoor track & field team competed against the top twenty-four athletes in Massachusetts representing six different districts across the state, at the 2003 M.I.A.A. State Track & Field Championships, held Saturday morning at Norwell High School.
The Red Raiders were led by senior Chris Kanclerowicz, who cracked the top ten, finishing 10th in the state in the pole vault with a leap of 11. Finishing in the top 15 were senior Adam Basilio in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 12th, 41:50; senior Ryan Logan in the 110 meter high hurdles, 14th, 15.87; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of seniors Chris Brodeur, Logan, Andrew Bisol, and Basilio, 15th, 3:34.85. Finishing in the top 20 were Brodeur in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 17th, 42.81; and the 3200 meter relay team comprised of sophomore Craig Fiore, junior Craig Babineau, sophomore Mike Carbone, and junior Loi Trieu, 17th, 8:37.58. Senior Steve Marrella competed in the two events for Fitchburg, the shot put, where he finished 18th with a throw, 46 1, and in the discus, 23rd, with a throw of 1147; and finishing 19th in the discus, senior John Lewis II, with a throw of 125 1.
Fitchburg concludes it season at Holy Cross this Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, competing in the 21st District E Central Massachusetts Decathlon with each day scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
June 3, 2003- Named Midland-Wachusett A League
All-Stars for 2003 were Ryan Logan, Craig Babineau, Loi Trieu, Craig Fiore, Mike Carbone, John Lewis II, Chris Kanclerowicz, Adam Dufour and Adam Basilio for capturing first place in their events at the Mid-Wach A League Championships, along with Steve Marrella and Andrew Bisol, who were selected by Mid-Wach A coaches as at-large All-Stars for their outstanding performances throughout the outdoor season.
June 2, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team captured their first ever District E Weightmans Pentathlon
held Monday afternoon at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School. Points are awarded to each athlete of a three-man team based on the individual athlete's performances in the 100 meters, shot put, discus, long jump, and 400 meters.
The Red Raiders' three-man team comprised of senior Ryan Logan, first place, 3,887 points, senior John Lewis II, fourth place, 2,654 points, and senior Steve Marrella, seventh place, 2,348 points, combined for a team total of 8,889 points, to shatter school and meet records.
Logan dominated the meet running the top time in the 400 meters, 56.9, and the top time in the 100 meters of 11.5, eclipsing the school pentathlon record of 11.7 set by Jordan Dursa in 2002. Logan also set new school and meet records in the long jump with a distance of 19' 10.25, while the 3,877 points he scored overall set school and meet records for individual points scored by an athlete at any grade level, and for highest point total for a senior athlete.
Marrella also broke a school and meet record, throwing the shot put 46 11.5, while John Lewis II had the best throw of the day in the discus with a distance of 130 5. Senior Greg Rodriguez also represented Fitchburg finishing twelfth overall with a point total of 1775 improving his personal record in the event by over 400 points.
May 31, 2003- The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team proved that they were up for the challenge of being defending Central Massachusetts Champions, by capturing their second consecutive MIAA District E Track
& Field Championship Saturday at Shrewsbury High School. The Red Raiders
once again outpointed perennial favorites Wachusett, 62, and St. Johns, 61, for their
third All-Class title in four years.
The Red Raiders victory was truly a team effort as they managed only one first place in the meet, the discus, won John Lewis II with a throw of 145 3. Fitchburg instead relied on balanced team scoring earning a total of 38.25 points in the field, and another 30 points on the track. As was similar to last years championship meet, Fitchburg once again came up big in the relays with a total of fourteen points scored in the 3200 meter, and 1600 meter relays, to clinch the meet. The Red Raider 3200 meter relay team comprised of Craig Fiore, Craig Babineau, Mike Carbone and Loi Trieu finished fourth in a season best 8:36.45 to make the score 60.25 points for Fitchburg, to 60 points for St. Johns. In the final event, the 1600 meter relay, the team comprised of Chris Brodeur, Ryan Logan, Andrew Bisol, and Adam Basilio, clinched the meet by finishing second in a season best 3:31.01.
Other top six performances contributing to the team title were turned in by Steve Marrella in the shot put, 48 1, second, and the discus, 13110, third; Logan in the 110 meter high hurdles, 15.47, second, and high jump with a height of 6, third; Basilio in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 41.31, third; Chris Kanclerowicz in the pole vault with a height of 11 6, third; Brodeur in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 41.90, fourth; Bisol in the long jump with a distance of 19 4", fifth; and Kevin Carriere in the high jump with a height of 510, sixth.
Both relay teams, along with Logan, Basilio, Brodeur, Marrella, Lewis II, and
Kanclerowicz will represent Fitchburg in the All-State Meet next Saturday at Norwell
High School with the field events scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
May 27, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team completed their dual meet season undefeated at 7-0, by defeating Mid-Wach B rival Oakmont Regional, 84-52, in Ashburnham.
The Red Raiders were led by double event winners Andrew Bisol and Everette Pankey. Bisol captured the long jump, 18 4.25, and 200 meters, 24.0; while Pankey picked up wins in the two mile, 10:52.8, and mile, 5:01.8. Individual wins went to Steve Marrella, shot put, 47 2.5; Ryan Logan, 110 meter high hurdles, 15.5; John Lewis II, discus, 146 3; Adam Basilio, 400 meters, 53.4; Chris Brodeur, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 42.3; Loi Trieu, 800 meters, 2:09.5; and the 1600 meter relay team comprised of Shawn McGrady, Craig Babineau, Trieu, and Basilio, 3:56.1.

May 27, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens freshmen/sophomore outdoor track & field team turned in several top performances at the Mid-Wach A Frosh/Soph Meet held Tuesday afternoon at North Middlesex Regional.
Craig Fiore led the way for the young Red Raiders finishing first in the 800 meter run with a season best 2:04.4, and then combining with Mike Carbone, Phil McCormack, and Andrew Carreiro to win the mile relay in 4:00.9. Other top performances in the running events were Carbone, two mile, 11:31.0, third; Dave Cosenza, 400 meters, 60.2, fourth; McCormack, mile, 5:06.0, fourth; Catalino Mateo, Mike Bellio, Mike Dateo, and Carreiro, 400 meter relay, 49.7, fourth; Mateo, 100 yard dash, 11.4, fifth; and Paul Membrino, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 49.5, fifth. May 22, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track team erupted for 79 points in the field events, finishing with 154 points overall in
the seven team field, in cruising to the 2003 Mid-Wach A League Championship held
Thursday afternoon at Algonquin Regional in Northboro. The final scores in the meet
after Fitchburg were defending champion Wachusett Regional, 128, Shrewsbury, 101,
Algonquin Regional, 77, Milford, 41, Leominster, 40, and North Middlesex Regional, 17.

track & field team once again turned in a strong second place performance in the Forty-Second Annual Ralph A. Colson Memorial Track & Field Class A Championship held Saturday at Shrewsbury High School. St. Johns captured the meet with 127 points, while Mid-Wach A rival Wachusett Regional was third with 88 points. The Red Raiders
earned the runner-up plaque by scoring 104 points.
Fitchburg was led by double-winner Andrew Bisol, who captured the long jump with a
distance of 19 9.25", and the 400 meters in a personal best 52.82. Bisol also teamed
with Shawn McGrady, Chris Brodeur, and Adam Basilio to finish second in the mile
relay with a time of 3:40.75. Individual wins for the Red Raiders went to Ryan Logan in
the 110 meter high hurdles, 15.93; Steve Marrella in the shot put, 49 2.5"; John Lewis II

Colonials, 74.5-70.5, in Mid-Wach A action Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by Andrew Bisol, and the return Ryan Logan, who captured
two events each. Bisol finished first in the long jump, 19 3.5", and the 400 meters, 52.9;
while Logan was first in the 110 meter high hurdles, 15.7, and the 100 meters, 11.7.
Individual wins went to Adam Basilio in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 41.9;

May 3, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team ran to a fourth place finish in Division I Saturday afternoon at the 27th Annual District E Robert Duncan Invitational Relays held at Pioneer Field in Shrewsbury. The Red Raiders scored 45 points overall to earn their position in a meet that saw several teams in the hunt for the team title throughout the course of the afternoon. St. Johns (Shrewsbury) won the meet with 66.5 points, followed by Westboro, 54, second, and Nashoba, 46, third, to finish ahead of Fitchburg in the twenty team field.
The Red Raiders were led by two first place performances in the 14 event meet as the
shot put relay team comprised of Steve Marrella, John Lewis II, and Greg Rodriguez,
combined for a winning distance of 128 11.75", while the 1600 meter relay team
comprised of Adam Basilio, Chris Brodeur, Andrew Bisol, and Everette Pankey were
also victorious finishing in a season best 3:34.4.
Also scoring valuable points by placing in the top six were the pole vault team comprised
of Chris Kanclerowicz, Shawn McGrady, and Mike Dateo, which finished third with a
combined height of 29; the discus relay team comprised of Lewis II, Marrella, and
Rodriguez, which finished third with a combined distance of 336 5"; the javelin team
comprised of Adam Dufour, Will Earley, and T.J. Loughlin, which finished fourth with a
combined distance of 382 2"; the 800 meter relay team comprised of McGrady,
Loughlin, Brodeur, and Bisol, which finished fourth in 1:37.5; the 3200 meter relay team
comprised of Loi Trieu, Craig Babineau, Mike Carbone, and Pankey, which finished
fourth in 8:48.2; and the sprint medley relay comprised of Ethan Shea, Phil McCormack,
Kanclerowicz, and Craig Fiore, which finished sixth in 4:05.4.
Also competing well for the Red Raiders was the triple jump team comprised of Andrew

April 28, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor
track & field team improved to 3-0 in Mid-Wach A by capturing 14 out of 17 events to
overwhelm arch-rival Leominster, 107-38, Monday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by team captains Andrew Bisol, who finished first in the long jump, 19 4.25", triple jump, 35 .75", and the 400 meters in 55.3; and Adam Basilio, who picked up first place finishes in the 110 meter high hurdles in 16.4, and in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 42.5. April 17, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor track & field team improved to 2-0 with a closely contested 76-69 win over Algonquin on a chilly Thursday afternoon at the Tomahawks home track.
The Red Raiders were led by senior Adam Basilio and junior Everette Pankey who captured two events each. Basilio once again captured the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.1, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 42.3; while Pankey picked up wins in the mile, 4:58.3, and 800 meters, 2:11.5. Individual wins went to Steve Marrella in the shot put, 481"; John Lewis II, discus, 133 10"; Adam Dufour, javelin, 138 10"; Loi Trieu, two mile, 11:11.8; and Chris Brodeur, 400 meters, 54.5.
Second place performances were turned in by Lewis in the shot put, 42 2"; Bisol, long jump, 19 3", and 200 meters, 25.2; Kevin Carriere, high jump, 5 6"; Craig Babineau, two mile, 11:37.5; T.J. Loughlin, javelin, 125 9"; Mike Carbone, mile, 5:09.9; and Trieu, 800 meters, 2:12.1. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Ethan Shea, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 47.8, and 110 meter high hurdles, 19.1; Shawn McGrady, pole vault, 9 6"; Brodeur, high jump, 5 2"; Greg Rodriguez, discus, 110 6"; and Carbone, 800 meters, 2:20.1.
The Red Raiders will host arch-rival Leominster a week from Monday with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
April 15, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School mens outdoor track & field team opened their dual meet season with an exciting 82-63 victory over defending Mid-Wach A Champion Wachusett Regional Tuesday afternoon at Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were led by Adam Basilio, who captured the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.0, and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles in 43.2. Individual wins went to Steve Marrella in the shot put, 4810; Kevin Carriere, high jump, 5 8; John Lewis II, discus, 145 8; Adam Dufour, javelin, 136 5; and Craig Fiore, Nathan Shea, Shawn McGrady and Andrew Bisol, 1600 meter relay, 3:56.2.
Second place performances were turned in by Lewis in the shot put, 42 2.5; Bisol, long jump, 19 1.5, and 400 meters, 53.6; Ethan Shea, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 47.9; McGrady, pole vault, 9 6; Everette Pankey, 800 meters, 2:08.8; and Brodeur, 200 meters, 23.9. Completing the scoring with third place performances were Greg Rodriguez, shot put, 40 3, and discus, 108 6; Brodeur, long jump, 18 3.5; Bisol, triple jump, 3411; Chris Kanclerowicz, pole vault, 9; William Earley, 100 meters, 12.1; Ethan Shea, 110 meter high hurdles, 18.3; and Pankey, two mile, 11:33.5.
The Red Raiders travel to Algonquin Regional in Northboro Thursday afternoon with that meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
April 10, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track & field team's first track meet versus North Middlesex has been rescheduled due to lingering snow at Crocker Field. Instead, the Red Raiders will open up against the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers this Tuesday at Crocker Field with the meet scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. The meet was moved from Monday to Tuesday to allow additional time to prepare the facilities for competition.
March 6, 2003 - The Fitchburg High School Athletic Department announced that sports physicals will be offered to spring sports athletes at no cost on Tuesday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School Nurses' Office, Room 105, located on the first floor. The MIAA Sports Candidate Medical Questionnaire must have the front filled out by a parent or guardian, and presented to the school physician prior to receiving the sports physical on Tuesday afternoon. The completed MIAA Questionnnaire, along with both parental permission/release forms, should be handed in to Coach Woods prior to the start of the first practice scheduled for Monday, March 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the field house.
MIAA Sports Candidate Medical Questionnaires and parent permission/release forms are available in the Fitchburg High School Athletic Office at 978-345-3240, Ext. 263, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Also, a reminder to parents and guardians that all track & field athletes are expected to pay a $30 athletic user fee.
