June 13, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor track team celebrated the conclusion of the outdoor season at a "Pot Luck" supper sponsored by the teams' parents, and the Fitchburg High School track & field coaching staff. The supper was hosted in the Fitchburg High School Cafe Thursday night.
Receiving recognition for their efforts were Ryan Logan, Most Valuable Performer; Shawn McGrady, Coaches’ Award; Adam Basilio, Most Improved; Anthony Murray, Freshmen Award; and the seasonal Bull Goose Loony Award (in memory of throwing Coach Jack Jerszyk), presented to three athletes, Hector Santiago, Joseph Rouse, Jr., and John Lewis, II. These athletes, along with thirty-eight others, received the right to wear the "F", for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track & field.
Coach Woods would like to personally congratulate the 2002 team and all others who contributed to the program’s success throughout the 2002 season.
June 8, 2002- Fitchburg High School senior Bryan Marotta concluded the Red Raiders' 2002 outdoor track & field season in fine fashion by running to a nineteenth place finish in the 3,200 meter run at the 57th New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Plymouth South High School. Marotta's time of 9:53.29 was a career best at that distance.
The Red Raiders will celebrate the end of their season this Thursday night, at 6:00 p.m., in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria, with a "Pot Luck" supper, along with team, and individual awards.

June 4 & 5, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
outdoor track team combined for a fifth place finish in the team standings at the 20th Annual Central Massachusetts
District E Decathlon, held at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. The top five teams in the meet were
Algonquin Regional, 15,301 points, Whitinsville-Christian, 14,796, Burncoat, 14,725,
Groton-Dunstable, 14,528, and Fitchburg, 14,322. The decathlon is a two day event featuring the 100 meters, long jump,
triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin, 110 meter high hurdles, 400 meters and 1500
meters.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Ryan Logan, who finished 5th overall with 5,683
points, while setting new Fitchburg High School decathlon records for total points by a junior, and total points overall,
both formally held by Dartmouth College Ivy League Champion, and 1999 Fitchburg High School Alum, Jeff Guenette.
Logan also set a record for the triple jump with a distance of 41' 11.25" previously held by Kevin Keenan set in 1996.
Logan combined with Andrew Bisol, 27th, 4,335 points, and Chris Brodeur, 31st, 4,304, for the team
total of 14,322 points.
Also competing for Fitchburg were: Adam Basilio, 55th, 3,899 points; Matt Brown, 91st, 3,173 points;
Ethan Shea, 93rd, 3,169 points; and Chris Kanclerowicz, 105th, 2,496 points.
Bryan Marotta concludes the Red Raiders' season this Saturday at the New England Track & Field Championships, to be held at Plymouth South High School,
with the field events scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
June 4, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track team ran to a second place finish at the District E Weightmen’s Pentathlon
held at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School Tuesday afternoon. Points scored in
the meet were based on performances in the 100 meters, shot put, discus, long jump, and
400 meters.
The Red Raiders were led by senior Jordan Dursa's second place effort, as he literally ran wild, breaking school records for overall and senior total points at 3,062, while breaking individual event records in the 100 meters, 11.7, the long jump, 15' 11.25", and the 400 meters, 56.6. Dursa combined with junior John Lewis II, 9th, 2,326 points, and freshman Anthony Murray, 10th, 1,845 points, for a new team record of 7,233 points. Lewis II's and Murray's point totals also broke the junior and freshmen records established in 2001. Also competing for Fitchburg were juniors Robert Barrett, 13th, 1,701 points, and Greg Rodriguez, 15th, 1,617 points.
June 1, 2002- Fitchburg High School senior Bryan Marotta
ran to a seventh place finish in the two mile at the MIAA All-State Track & Field
Championships held Saturday at Worcester State College.
Marotta’s time of 9:45.29 was a career best, and was accomplished out of the unseeded
section of the two mile, in which he finished first. Marotta’s time missed sixth place in
the seeded section by .29 seconds. As it turned out, the sixth place competitor elected
not to attend next week’s New England Championship at Plymouth South High School,
thereby providing Marotta the opportunity to represent Massachusetts as the sixth seed in
the two mile.
Also competing for the Red Raiders at Saturday’s meet were John Lewis II in the discus, 128’
5", fifteenth; Hector Santiago, discus, 117’ 7", nineteenth, and shot put, 43’ 9.25",
twenty-first; Everette Pankey, Adam Basilio, Tom Laakso, and Bryan Marotta, 3200
meter relay, 8:47.30, twentieth; and Chris Brodeur, Adam Renquinha, Jordan Dursa, and
Andrew Bisol, 1600 meter relay, 3:43.63, twenty-third.
Dursa finishes his Fitchburg High School career Monday afternoon at the 2nd Annual
District E Weightman’s Pentathlon at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School, while
Brodeur and Bisol travel to Holy Cross Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons for the 20th
Annual District E Decathlon.
May 25, 2002- The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track team shocked themselves, and the District E field, by capturing their second MIAA
Central Massachusetts Track & Field Championship in three years Saturday morning at
Worcester State College. The Red Raiders outpointed favorites St. John’s, 50 to 45.5,
and Class A Champion, Wachusett Regional, which finished a disappointed sixth with 28
points.
The Red Raiders fell behind after fourteen events to Northbridge, only to rally with
sixteen points in the 3200 meter and 1600 meter relays to clinch the meet. Fitchburg was
led by their 3200 meter relay team comprised of Everette Pankey, Loi Trieu, Tom
Laakso, and Bryan Marotta, which finished first in 8:18.40. Their time was the fastest
time run by any Red Raider team in the past twenty years, and narrowly missed the meet
record by less than two seconds. In the final event, the 1600 meter relay, the team of
Chris Brodeur, Adam Basilio, Andrew Bisol, and Adam Renquinha, ran the fastest time
of the season in that event by over ten seconds, to finish third in 3:37.67.
Other top six performances contributing to the victory were turned in by Ryan Logan in the triple jump, 41’11", second;
Basilio, 300 meter intermediate hurdles, 41.97, second; John Lewis II, discus, 130’ 8",
third; Marotta, two mile, 9:52.03, fourth; and Hector Santiago, discus, 130’ 1", fourth,
and the shot put, 46’ 1.5", fourth.
Both relay teams, along with Logan, Basilio, Marotta, Lewis II, and Santiago, will
represent Fitchburg in the All State Meet next Saturday, also at Worcester State College,
with the field events scheduled to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
May 23, 2002- Named Midland-Wachusett A League
All-Stars for 2002 were Hector Santiago, Craig Babineau, Bryan Marotta, Loi Trieu, and
Everette Pankey for capturing first place in their events at the Mid-Wach A League
Championships, along with Ryan Logan and Adam Renquinha, who were selected by
Mid-Wach A coaches as at-large All-Stars for their outstanding performances throughout
the outdoor season.
May 22, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
freshmen/sophomore team turned in numerous top performances at the Mid-Wach A
Frosh/Soph Meet held Wednesday afternoon at North Middlesex.
Leading the way for the Red Raiders in the field events were as follows: long jump: Loi

May 20, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track team ran to a second place finish at the Mid-Wach A League Meet Championship
held Monday afternoon at Algonquin Regional. The final scores in the meet were
Wachusett, 147.5, Fitchburg, 119.5, Shrewsbury, 85.5, Milford, 58, Algonquin, 49.5,
North
Middlesex, 49, and Leominster, 47.
The Red Raiders were led by Bryan Marotta and Hector Santiago, who each recorded
first place finishes. Marotta teamed with Craig Babineau, Loi Trieu, and Everette Pankey
to win the 3200 meter relay in 8:45.9, and then followed up that first place performance
with a win in the 3200 meter run in 9:59.0. Santiago was first in his specialty, the discus,
winning that event with a throw of 140’, while finishing third in the shot put with a
career best 47’ 3". Ryan Logan also had a solid day for the Red Raiders, finishing second
in the long jump, 19’ 11", and triple jump, 41’ 10", third in the 110 meter high hurdles,
15.7, while teaming with Chris Brodeur, Jordan Dursa and Anthony Brisebois to finish
third in the 400 meter relay in 46.2. Adam Renquinha was Fitchburg’s other major point
scorer, finishing second in both the 100 meters, 11.3, and 200 meters, 23.3.
Finishing third were Tom Laakso, 1600 meter run, 4:41.3; and Adam Basilio, 300 meter
intermediate hurdles, 42.2. Fourth place went to Pankey, 1600 meter run, 4:48.5; Joe

All-Stars for spring track & field were junior Ryan Logan, and seniors Adam Renquinha
and Hector Santiago. These three athletes, along with winter and fall Sentinel &
Enterprise All-Stars will be honored a banquet to be announced later this month.
May 14, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track team completed their Mid-Wach A dual meet season at 5-1, defeating the North
Middlesex Patriots, 89-56, in Townsend.
The Red Raiders had three athletes with multiple first place performances led by Andrew
Bisol, who captured three events, the long jump, 17’8", triple jump, 36’2.5", and the
440 yard dash in 56.5. Adam Renquinha and Adam Basilio won two events each, as
Renquinha captured the 100 yard dash in 10.9, and 220 yard dash in 23.9; while Basilio
captured the 120 yard high hurdles in 18.0, and 330 yard intermediate hurdles in 45.3.

track team turned in a strong second place performance in the Forty-First Annual Ralph
A. Colson Memorial Track & Field Class A Championship held Saturday at Crocker
Field. Mid-Wach A rival Wachusett Regional won the title with 117 points, while the
Red Raiders outpointed St. John’s (Shrewsbury), 87 to 81, for the runner-up plaque.
Fitchburg was led by double-winner Ryan Logan , who captured the 110 meter high
hurdles in 15.9, and the triple jump with a leap of 40’1.5". Logan also teamed with
Adam Renquinha, Jordan Dursa, and Anthony Brisebois in the 400 meter relay to finish
third in 46.3. The Red Raiders also had two individual champions as Hector Santiago
captured the discus with a career best 143’8", while Renquinha picked up first place
points in the 200 meters with a time of 23.9.

events, the pole vault and javelin, were not contested due to extremely high wind
conditions.
The Red Raiders were led by Adam Renquinha, Ryan Logan, and Bryan Marotta, who
captured two events each. Renquinha won the 100 meter dash, 11.2, and 220 yard dash,
23.3; Logan, the long jump, 19’9", and triple jump, 41’2"; and Marotta, the two mile,

April 27, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men's outdoor
track team surprised the Division I field Saturday morning by placing second overall to
favorite St. John’s(Shrewsbury), 60 to 52, in the 26th Annual District E Robert Duncan
Division I Invitational Relay Meet held Saturday at Pioneer Field in Shrewsbury. The
Red Raiders edged out Mid-Wach A rival Wachusett Regional by 1 point to earn the
Runner-Up plaque.
Fitchburg was led by the record setting discus team of Hector Santiago, Joseph Rouse,
Jr., and John Lewis II, which finished first with a combined distance of 367’, breaking
the existing meet record by 1’ set back in 1980. The distance medley team comprised of
Everette Pankey, Adam Basilio, Tom Laakso, and Bryan Marotta also finished first for
Fitchburg in a winning time of 11:12.0.
Also scoring valuable points by placing in the top six were the 3200 meter relay team
comprised of Loi Trieu, Laakso, Marotta, and Pankey, which finished second in 8:37.8;
the triple jump team comprised of Ryan Logan, Andrew Bisol, and Chris Brodeur, which
combined for 112’11.25" to finish third; the 1600 meter relay team comprised of
Brodeur, Shawn McGrady, Nathan Shea, and Bisol, 3:44.6, fourth; the 400 meter relay

track team improved to 2-1, defeating arch-rival Leominster, 98-47, Tuesday afternoon at
Crocker Field.
The Red Raiders were once again led by Ryan Logan, who captured three events, the
long jump, 19’ 7.75", triple jump, 39’ 4.5", and the 110 meter high hurdles, 15.7.
Hector Santiago and Anthony Brisebois won two events each, as Santiago captured the
discus, 137’ 4", and the shot put, 44’, while Brisebois captured the high jump, 5’ 6", and
the pole vault, 8’. Individual wins went to Bryan Marotta, mile, 4:51.3; Adam Basilio,
300 meter intermediate hurdles, 45.4; Adam Renquinha, 200 meters, 24.1; and the 1600

April 8, 2002 - The Fitchburg High School men’s outdoor
track team opened their dual meet season with a loss, falling to Mid-Wach A rival
Wachusett Regional, 81-64, at the Fred Warren Track Facility in Holden.
The Red Raiders were led by Ryan Logan, who captured the long jump, 19’1", the triple
jump, 39’2", and 110 meter high hurdles in 16.5. Adam Renquinha and Hector Santiago
captured two events each, as Renquinha won the 100 meters, 11.6, and 200 meters, 23.8;
while Santiago won the shot put, 43’2", and discus, 137’7". Other first place
performances were turned in by Anthony Brisebois, pole vault, 9’; and Adam Basilio,
300 meter intermediate hurdles, 43.7.
Second place performances were turned in by Tom Laakso in the two mile, 10:45.2, and
800 meters, 2:08.9; Andrew Bisol, 400 meters, 55.5; Joe Rouse, discus, 113’4"; and
Basilio, 110 meter high hurdles, 17.9. Completing the scoring with third place
performances were Adam Dufour, javelin, 124’1"; Brisebois, high jump, 5’8", and 100
meters, 12.1; and Jordan Dursa, 200 meters, 25.0.
The Red Raiders host Algonquin Regional this Thursday afternoon at Crocker Field.
March 4, 2002 - The 2002 Fitchburg High School men's
outdoor track team announced that it's first
week of practice will begin on Monday afternoon, March 18, from 2:00 to 3:00
in the field house. The first several practices will focus in on conditioning and preparing
the team for the transition to Crocker Field tentatively scheduled toward the end of the
week, weather permitting. Outdoor track practices will be held Monday through Friday,
2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. for the conditioning and workout phase of practice, followed by
specialization in the field events until approximately 4:30 p.m. Returning lettermen and
first year runners are reminded that they must provide a parental permission slip, pay the
school user fee of $15, and have received a MIAA approved physical examination within
the last calendar year in order to participate in practices and competitions. Regarding
physicals, Fitchburg High School will once again offer free physicals for any
athlete in need on Monday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m., in the physcial therapy
room.
Over sixty athletes are expected to come out for this year's squad. Athletes are reminded
to come to practice in proper running attire. Any questions about practice, or any other

The Red Raiders open their season on Monday afternoon, April 8, at Wachusett
