March 22, 2006 - Senior Malcolm Wilbur was selected a Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star for capturing the 55 meter dash at the District E, Division I Championships held at Fitchburg High School on February 11.
March 21, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team celebrated the conclusion of the 2005-2006 indoor season at the end of the season banquet held Tuesday night in the Fitchburg High School Cafeteria.
Receiving recognition for their efforts during the season were junior Garrett Malouin, Most Valuable Athlete; senior Dave Cosenza, Coaches’ Award; sophomore Stephen Silvar, Most Improved Athlete; and Cameron Trodello, Freshman Award; and Derek Paine, the annual Bull Goose Loony Award (in memory of throwing Coach Jack Jerszyk). These athletes, along with
the rest of the team, earned the right to wear the "F" by earning Varsity status, for their commitment, hard work, and dedication to the sport of track and field.
Coach Woods and Coach Moore, and girls' head Coach Mike Lavers, would like to personally congratulate the team, and their parents, along with everyone else who contributed to the program's success throughout the 2005-2006 season.

February 28, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
indoor track & field team ran to a ninth place finish at the 11th Annual Massachusetts
State Track Coaches' Pentathlon held Tuesday evening at the Reggie Lewis Track and
Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.
Senior Malcolm Wilbur led the Red Raiders finishing 21st out of 94 athletes, by scoring
2,781 points in the five event competition comprised of the 55 meter high hurdles, the
long jump, the high jump, the shot put, and the 1000 meter run. Wilbur’s points
combined with the points scored by fellow seniors Will Schuerman, 41st place, 2,479
points, and David Cosenza, 48th place, 2,426 points, accounted for the team’s total of 7,686
points, and Fitchburg’s overall place in the meet.
February 24, 2006 - Fitchburg High School junior Garrett Malouin ran his fast time of the season in the 1000 meter run to finish tenth overall at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's All-State Track & Field Championships held Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College. Malouin captured the unseeded section of the event in a season best 2:37.77 to earn his overall standing as one of the top ten runners in Massachusetts at 1000 meters for the 2005-2006 indoor track & field season.
Fitchburg’s next meet will be the 11th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches’ Association Pentathlon, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m., and will also be held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury.
February 18, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team ran one individual best, and one team best, in the 1000 meters, and 3200 meter relay, at the 89th Annual State Indoor Track & Field Division I Championships held Saturday morning at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.
Junior Garrett Malouin lowered his own personal best in the 1000 meters, finishing ninth in 2:37.77, and then teamed with seniors Mike Bellio and Mike Carbone, and junior Devan Glenny in the 3200 meter relay, to finish nineteenth in a season best 8:37.75. Malouin's time in the 1000 meters places him as the fifteenth seed in that event at next Friday's M.I.A.A. Indoor All-State Track & Field Meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
Also representing the Red Raiders were Malcolm Wilbur in the 55 meter dash, eleventh, 6.84; the 800 meter relay team comprised of seniors Wilbur, Carbone, and Dave Cosenza, along with sophomore Steve Silvar, which finished twentieth in 1:40.23; and Cosenza in the 300 meters, thirty-fourth, 39.84.
February 15, 2006 - Senior Malcolm Wilbur, and junior Garrett Malouin, were named Midland-Wachusett A League All-Stars for the 2005-2006 indoor track & field season, for capturing first place in the 55 meter dash, and the 1000 meters, respectfully, at the Midland-Wachusett A League Championships held on Saturday, January 28th, at the Fitchburg High School field house.
The Red Raiders hope additional honors will come there way as they await the announcement of the 2005-2006 Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Stars, and the 2005-06 Sentinel & Enterprise Indoor Track & Field All-Star Team, which should be announced in the next few weeks.
February 11, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team finished sixth overall in the 28th Annual District E, Division I Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School field house. The day featured one facility record, as Thompson Ogilvie of Hopedale lowered the standard in the two mile run during the Division II meet to 9:48.58, breaking the previous mark set by Tim Cunningham of Wachusett Regional set back in 2005.
The Red Raiders were led by Malcolm Wilbur, who finished first in the 55 meter dash in 6.89, and the two mile relay team comprised of Mike Bellio, Mike Carbone, Devan Glenny, and Garrett Malouin, which also finished first in 8:53.12. Malouin also picked up second place in the 1000 meters, with a time of 2:43.50.
Also competing for Fitchburg was the mile relay team comprised of Wilbur, Will Schuerman, Carbone and Bellio, seventh, 3:55.89; Derek Paine, shot put, tenth, 40' 5.75"; the 880 yard relay team comprised of Steve Silvar, Johann Schuerman, Afolabi Ogunleye, and Lekan Bamgbose, sixteenth, 1:49.52; Bamgbose and Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles, twentieth, 9.57, and 9.61, twenty-second, respectfully; and Will Schuerman in the high jump.
The Red Raiders now focus their efforts on preparing for next Saturday’s M.I.A.A. 89th Annual Indoor State Division I Track & Field Meet, to held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, scheduled to get under way at 9:00 a.m.
February 5, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team was represented by senior Malcolm Wilbur in the 55 meter dash, and junior Garrett Malouin in the 1000 meters, at the 2nd Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Boys' Elite Invitational Track & Field Meet held Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College. The field in all the events was comprised of the top twenty-four athletes and relay teams in the state, and competed by invitation only.
Wilbur's time of 6.73 in the 55 meter dash earned him a fifth place finish, and broke the school record set by Harold Mateo in 2000. Malouin's time of 2:41.31 in the 1000 meters was his personal best, and placed him twentieth overall.
The Red Raiders host the District E Track & Field Championships this Saturday, with the Division I Meet scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m.
February 4, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field team turned in several personal bests at the 43rd Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Invitational Track & Field Meet held Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College.
The 3200 meter relay team comprised of Mike Bellio, Mike Carbone, Devan Glenny, and Garrett Malouin ran their best time of the season, finishing fifth in 8:39.50; while individual personal bests were turned in by Dave Cosenza in the 300 meters, 38.94, fifty-fifth; and Bellio in the 600 meters, 1:31.96, fifty-ninth. Also representing Fitchburg was the 800 meter relay team comprised of Will Schuerman, Malcolm Wilbur, Cosenza, and Johnny Gomez, 1:38.48, twelth; Gomez, 55 meter dash, 7.12, forty-fifth; and Cosenza in the high jump.
The Red Raiders return to the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center tomorrow morning to compete in the 2nd Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Associations' Boys' Elite Invitational Track & Field Meet.
February 4, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men's indoor track & field sophomore/freshman team turned in several top performances at the 1st Mid-Wach League Indoor Track Sophomore/Freshman Meet held Saturday at the Marlborough High School Field House.
Leading the way was sophomore Steve Silvar, who finished first in the shot put, 39' 8", and second in the 40 yard dash, 5.4. Silvar also teamed with Glenn Lemieux, Johann Schuerman, and Eric Faucher in the 880 yard relay team to finish 3rd in 1:57.7. Schuerman also earned the bronze in the 40 yard high hurdles, finishing third in 6.8, and fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5'. Also competing in individual events was Lemieux in the shot put, 26' 7"; and Faucher in the mile, 6:02.0.
January 28, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team clinched fifth place overall in Mid-Wach A by finishing fifth at the Mid-Wach A Championships held Saturday afternoon in the Fitchburg High School Field House. The final scores in the meet were Algonquin Regional, 89, Wachusett Regional, 70, Shrewsbury, 68, North Middlesex Regional, 54, Fitchburg, 37, Milford, 35, and Leominster, 19.
The Red Raiders were led by Malcolm Wilbur and Garrett Malouin, who finished first in the 55 meter dash in 6.9, and 1000 meters, 2:45.9, respectfully. Malouin was also third in the 2 mile in 10:34.5, while other top six performances came from mile run with Will Schuerman, high jump, fourth, 5' ^'; the mile relay team comprised of Dave Cosenza, Will Schuerman, Joel Gomez, and Afolabi Ogunleye, fourth, 3:59.8; the two mile relay team comprised of Joel Gomez, Devan Glenny, Kris Maillet, and Mike Bellio, fifth, 9:23.6; Cosenza, high jump, 5' 4"; and Wilbur, 300 meters, sixth, 40.0.
Also representing Fitchburg were Derek Paine, Wilbur, and Ryan Robar, shot put, 42' 3.75", 39' .5", and 37' .75", respectfully; Andrew Cordio, high jump, 5'; Johann Schuerman, Cordio, and Lekan Bamgbose, 55 meter high hurdles, 9.7, 10.4, and DQ, respectfully; Johnny Gomez and Jesus Ramos, 55 meter dash, 7.4, and 7.5, respetfully; Glenny in the mile, 5:08.6; Bellio in the 600 meters, 1:33.5; and the 880 yard relay team comprised of Cosenza, Ramos, Steve Silvar, and Johnny Gomez, which was disqualified for an exchange zone infraction.

January 21, 2006 - The
Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team turned in
several fine performances Saturday morning at the 29th Massachusetts
State Coaches Class A Indoor Track & Field Relay Championships held
at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Community
College.
The Red Raiders’ 3200 meter relay team
comprised of Devan Glenny, Mike Bellio, Mike Carbone, and Garrett
Malouin ran to a 15th place finish in 8:43.90, which qualifies them for
the State Division I Championships on February 18. Also qualifying for
the State Division I Championships was the 800 meter relay team
comprised of Will Schuerman, Dave Cosenza, Johnny Gomez, and Malcolm
Wilbur, which finished 19th in 1:38.08.
Also competing for the Red Raiders was
the 50 yard dash shuttle "A" team comprised of Wilbur, Johnny Gomez,
Steve Silvar, and Jesus Ramos, 12th, 23.49, and the 50 yard dash
shuttle "B" team comprised of Eric Dion, Derek Paine, Johann Schuerman,
and Ryan Robar, 35th, 25.28; the shot put relay team comprised of
Paine, Silvar, and Robar,11th, 118' 11.25"; the long jump team
comprised of William Schuerman, Joel Gomez, and Wilbur, 20th, 49'
1.75"; the 50 yard shuttle hurdle team comprised of Johann Schuerman,
Lekan Bamgbose, Andrew Cordio, and Glenn Lemieux, 24th, 32.55; the
sprint medley relay team comprised of Kris Maillet, Silvar, Cordio, and
Afolabi Ogunleye, 39th, 4:16.47; also competing was the high jump team
comprised of William Schuerman, Cosenza, and Cordio.

Division Championships this Saturday morning with the Mid-Wach Division
A Championship getting underway at 1:30 p.m.
January 18, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor
track and field team split a double-dual meet once again Wednesday night, defeating
Milford 55-36, while losing to Algonquin Regional, 54-37.
Against Milford, Dave Cosenza, Garrett Malouin, and Malcolm Wilbur won two events
each in the high jump, 5’ 8”, and the 300 meter dash, 40.4; two mile, 10:55.0, and 1000
meters, 2:46.9; and the shot put, 40’ 8.25”, and 55 meter dash, 6.5. Wilbur’s time of 6.5
seconds in the 55 meter dash equaled the high school record set by
Harold Mateo in 2000, and the facility record he had
previously shared with Raymel Scott set in 2001. Also finishing first was the mile relay team
comprised of Mike Bellio, Will Schuerman, Cosenza, and Joel Gomez, which finished in
3:56.4. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ryan Robar, shot put, 40’ 2.5”; Devan
Glenny, two mile, 10:57.6; Mike Carbone, mile, 5:00.1; Bellio, 600 meters, 1:35.5; and
Will Schuerman, high jump, 5’ 6”. Completing the scoring by finishing third were Derek
Paine, shot put, 40’ 1.5”; Kris Maillet, mile, 5:34.1; Gomez, 600 meters, 1:36.6; Afolabi
Ogunleye, 300 meters, 42.9; and Carbone, 1000 meters, 2:55.4.
Versus
Algonquin Regional Wilbur, shot put, and 55 meter dash; and Malouin,
two mile and 1000 meters, picked up two first place finishes each,
respectively; with second place points going to Robar, shot put;
Glenny,two mile; Carbone, mile; and Cosenza, high jump. Completing the
scoring by finishing third were Paine, shot put; Bellio, 600 meters;
Cosenza, 300 meters; Carbone, 1000 meters; and Schuerman, high jump.
The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, Roxbury Community College, Saturday morning to compete in the 29th
Massachusetts State Coaches Association’s Class A Relays with that meet scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m..

- The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor
track & field team ran to an eleventh place finish with 3,054
points at the 7th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Team
Pentathlon held Saturday morning at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center,
Roxbury Community College.
The Red Raiders had one individual record
broken, and another equalled, as Will Schuerman jumped 18' 10.5" in the
long jump to break the previous mark of 18' 7" set by Andrew Bisol in
2003, while Dave Cosenza cleared 5' 8" in the high jump to equal the
mark set by Blaine Colacchio in 2001. Also representing Fitchburg High
School in the unique five event meet were Johann Schuerman in the 55
meter high hurdles, 9.55; Ryan Robar, shot put, 39' 10; and Garrett
Malouin in the 1000 meters, 2:42.22.
The Red Raiders host Algonquin Regional and Milford this Wednesday evening with that meet scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m.
January 11, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor
track & field team split a double dual meet Wednesday night, defeating Leominster 67-23, while
losing to North Middlesex Regional, 49-42.
Against
Leominster, Fitchburg was led by Garrett Malouin, who picked up two
first place finishes in the 2 mile, 10:47.7, and 1000 meters, 2:52.9;
while receiving individual first place performances from Dave Cosenza
in the high jump, 5’ 8”; Lekan Bamgbose, 55 meter high
hurdles, 9.3; Malcolm Wilbur, 55 meter dash, 6.6; Ryan Robar, shot put,
40’ 9.25”; Mike
Bellio, 600 meters, 1:33.6; the 880 relay team comprised of Wilbur,
Johnny Gomez, Jesus
Ramos, and Afolabi Ogunleye, 1:46.8; and the mile relay team comprised

comprised of Bellio, Will Schuerman, Joel Gomez, and Cosenza. Finishing second were
Bamgbose, 55 meter high hurdles; Glenny, mile; Robar, shot put; and Bellio, 600. Completing
the scoring were Johann Schuerman, 55 meter high hurdles; Maillet, mile, and 1000 meters; Silvar,
shot put; and Joel Gomez, 600 meters, 1:40.6.
The Red Raiders travel to the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Roxbury Saturday morning to
compete in the 7th Annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Team Pentathlon.
January 7, 2006 - The Fitchburg High School men’s
indoor track & field team was swept in their double-dual meet held Saturday morning in
the Fitchburg High School field house, losing to the Shrewsbury Colonials, 61-30, and
the Wachusett Regional Mountaineers, 58-33.
Against the Colonials the Red Raiders were led by David Cosenza, who won the high
jump with a leap of 5' 8", and combined with Mike Bellio, Devan Glenny, and Joel
Gomez to win the mile relay in 4:02.9. Also finishing first were Malcolm Wilbur, 55
meter dash, 6.8; and Garrett Malouin, 1000 Meters, 2:54.8. Finishing second for
Fitchburg were Malouin, two mile, 10:44.0; and Bellio, 600 meters, 1:34.7. Completing
the scoring with third place finishes were Johnny Gomez, 55 meter dash, 7.0; Glenny,
mile, 5:08.2; Will Schuerman, 300 meters, 42.3; and Ryan Robar, shot put, 40' 4".
Versus the Mountaineers the Red Raiders had first place performances from Malouin in
the two mile and 1000 meters; Wilbur, 55 meter dash; Cosenza, high jump; and the 880
yard relay team comprised of Eric Dion, Steve Silvar, Jesus Ramos, and Johnny Gomez,
1:47.5. Will Schuerman finished second in the 300 meters; while third place
performances went to Johann Schuerman in the 55 meter high hurdles, 9.5; Johnny
Gomez in the 55 meter dash; Glenny in the mile; Bellio in the 600 meters; and Robar in
the shot put to complete the scoring.
The Red Raiders host Leominster and North Middlesex Regional Wednesday night with
that meet scheduled to get underway at 5:00
p.m.
December 14, 2005
- The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor track & field team lost
their season opener to St. John's of Shrewsbury Wednesday night,
falling 55-36, in the Fitchburg High School field house.
Dave
Cosenza was the top point scorer for the Red Raiders, finishing first
in the 300 meters, 40.0, second in the high jump, 5' 8", while
combining with Mike Bellio, Joel Gomez, and Will Schuerman in the mile
relay to finish first in that event with a time of 4:00.9. Schuerman
picked up first in the high jump with a leap of 5' 8", while Malcomb
Wilbur was first in the 55 meter dash in 6.7, and third in the 300
meters in 40.9. Finishing second for Fitchburg were Ryan Robar in the
shot put, 38' 11"; Bellio in the 600 meters, 1:34.7; and Garrett
Malouin in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:58.5. Completing the
scoring with third place finishes were Malouin in the 2 mile with a
time of 10:45.6; Derek Paine in the shot put, 37' 5.5"; and Johnny
Gomez, 55 meter dash, 7.2.
The
Red Raiders will now prepare for an important double-dual meet versus
Shrewsbury and Wachusett regional on Saturday, January 7, with that
meet scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m. in the Fitchburg High
School field house.
