February 10, 2001 - The Fitchburg High School men’s indoor
track team ended their central Massachusetts portion of season in fine fashion Saturday
morning, overtaking St. John’s and Shrewsbury in the final event of 23rd Annual Division
I District E Indoor Invitational Track Meet, the mile relay, to finish second overall in the
team competition to Wachusett Regional. The final score of the meet was Wachusett, 67,
Fitchburg 45.25, St. John’s, 43.5, Shrewsbury, 40, Milford, 32, Gardner, 30.25, Marlboro,
20, Shepard Hill, 18, Leominster, 17, North Middlesex, 16, Algonquin, 13.25, Tantasqua,

The meet certainly had it’s drama for the Red Raiders, as they found themselves in fourth
place going into the mile relay needing to win the event, and hoping St. John’s and

additional lap run. In the second race the team of Adam Renquinha, Roberts, Shea, and
Scott won for the second time finishing in a season best 3:48.7 on the Field House oval.
St. John’s only managed fifth in the re-run, while Shrewsbury failed to place. The Red
Raiders' time was both a facility record and field house school record.
Contributing to the cause with individual District Championship titles were Adam
Renquinha in the 600 meters with a facility best 1:27.7, and Bryan Marotta in the
two mile with a school field house record time of 10:09.3. Both these athletes will be named
Worcester T&G All-Stars for their efforts. Also scoring points were Blaine Colacchio,
high jump, 5’10", third, and 55 meter hurdles, 8.6, fifth; Scott, 300 meters, 37.9, third;
and the two mile relay team comprised of Loi Trieu, Marotta, Everette Pankey, and
Laakso, 8:52.6, fourth.
